As Trovan said you just can't disconnect it. What kind of wheels are you getting? Some accept the sensors in the factory position like my Champion RS98's. Some might need bands to hook up the sensor to.

You can buy an extra set of TPM sensors and valve stems for about $390

It's nothing to tear apart. You just un-hook the sensors from the old wheels and put them on the new ones. Even my dealer, who didn't do this before, had no trouble at all.
