Porsche themselves has accepted liability since they installed a safety at a specific rpm level for over reving and they have therefore freed you of any liability for over reving the car on upshifts.
Unfortunately they can... here is a thread about someone's problems with a GT3. Sad part was he didn't even do it, it was the previous owner before he bought it from the dealer. Though I think his problem was a combination of over rev and track use.

Very good point, and also the service department in general, and knowledge of the over rev system, what is considered normal, at what point is damage occuring, what point is it potentially dangerous, and what areas are no danger at all. A good relationship with a competent service department, and there should no issues.

What im saying is that the computer mgiht read that it is more then a stage 1 over rev even if you jsut bounce off the limiter while upshifting or hitting it while in neutral...Once the computer says it basically you have no argument becuase the according toi them the computer never lies.

If it's 997 we're talking about there are 6 levels above redline. Occasionally the rev limiter will set numbers in level 1, this is not a big deal.

Yes i wish this was the case but they recorded a much higher level from my car and did not do any overrevs by downshifting or anything like that, the only way i have hit the limiter was by missing a gear and hitting the limiter in neutral. I explained this to hte service manager and he said that it was impossible.

I actually had problems of occasionally misshifting with my stock shifters. After I installed the B&M short shift kit, that problem has been eliminated. Now I definitely know if I'm in the gear or not.

The B&M short shift kit does take a bit more effort to shift though.

I guess I should have clarified. I have never over-revved on a downshift or had any "money-shifts" but I have hit the rev limiter about 5-6 times while accelerating during the past month or so. Usually it's on a 1-2 shift. It's just so damn satisfying to wind it out with the PSE! I guess I don't need to worry since the CEL went out on it's own.

Robert - I've had the same situation. In my cases, I usually do it while I am driving hard in the twisties, so I usually bump the limiter in 2-3 or 3-4 shifts.

3-4 shifts? I don't remember max speed in gears but that would be 95-100+ in the twisties? Now that's what I'm talking about!

Gotta love Skyline Drive out here in VA... Let's just say I topped out 4th gear in a couple spots.

Same here, it's all the PSE's fault.

How many rpm's do you think it would take to fry an engine? My tach hit 8,000 on a downshift but no apparent problems.

Considering my car is now out of warranty... I rather not be the test subject

Ouch! I would think that redline is set so there is a reasonable margin of safety. Who knows how big that margin is but it wouldn't be too smart to set redline @ 7200rpm (I think that's what max RPM is, too cold in the garage to check) if the engine exploded @ 7300rpm. That being said, make sure you keep one eye on the rear view mirror in case you start leaving a trail of engine parts.

Ouch, glad you didn't blow that engine.
