extended warranty

Has anyone purchased an extended warranty, I have 10k miles and investigation shows some warranties increase in price or are not availablle after 10-12k.
Others are available any time during the factory warranty period.
I have been advised to wait until the factory warranty was just about to expire before purchase, but length of warranty is shorter eg: 6 yrs instead of 7 and up to 60 or 75k as opposed to 100k.
This seems to be a gravy item for dealers and prices can very by $1000 or more for the same coverage. Some companies are notoriously short lived and it may be better to wait.
Any thoughts or prices for 7yr 100k coverage (Platinum or highest level)

My question to you would be, why ? 911's are very reliable cars and always have been assuming you drive and maintain them well. Are you nervous about something with your car ? With such little mileage, even if you did want an extended warranty, I would say wait until you are near the end of the original factory warranty.

I purchased a 7yr/100k warranty with a full buyback (minus $50) if unused at end. (Giving me 3yrs and 50k extra over Porsche's)
I have been putting high mileage on my cars and if I wait I can only buy a 2yr and 36k warranty for more money when original runs out.
These extensive Porsche systems have only been around a few years and if the PCM or any modules go, out of pocket could be high.
I didn't worry so much about my 14 year old 92C2, but it wasn't as sophistocated either!!

My dealer told me to come in before 25k miles if I wanted the extended warranty, as that's when theirs go up.

Crod - 911's are reliable, but not 100%. I personally would not gamble on an electronics failure, or significant engine/transmission trouble - the cost is orders of magnitude more than a $1000 warranty.

No way I'd keep an M96 engined car past warranty without an extended....yes shop for one in last 6 months......use your shopping to get a fair price (ideally from your servicing dealer)......or flip the car when warranty is up.

I did the extended warranty on my Boxster right at the very end, but it was a problem car and it scared me without one. Its good insurance, but now I would just get another Porsche everytime its out of warranty, with a 50% loss on most Porsches in 5 years, I dont know if I think its worth it again. I think you love your car though and want to keep.. goodluck
