You know, I gotta say, I wouldn't mind hitting a button or two every time I passed a speed trap for the privilege of having access to that same information from other people. It's really just not a huge bother to me.

I don't know what you're so busy doing while driving that you can't be bothered to hit a button or two when passing a speed trap, but I'm pretty sure it would be worth that major effort to me, and there's generally some down time for me when behind the wheel anyway. I try and get most of my eating, reading and makeup done before I leave the house . . .

You have to consider where your detector is mounted. if I mount mine near the rear view mirror hard wired getting to it is not easy to hit a button or two.

Again, I probably don't pass a speed trap a day. I just think I could muster the effort for the value of the information I get in return, even if it was hard wired near the rear view mirror. But then again, I am currently on triple secret probation, so I place a high value on such information these days . . .

Russ,

I am shock to hear you say “ Make up†is that for you car or you?

I don’t know about you guys, where I live the speed trap is different everyday. I am mot sure I like to push the button; maybe I wouldn’t use that feature. I own several Radar Detector pass 15 years it’s a must to have, save me many tickets.

My buddy just bought a v1 for his elise. I was about to order one, it seemed like the clear choice... but reading up on the new passport, I think im going to wait for some reviews too.

I'm happy with my S2 solo passport, will upgrade to a 9500 escort, never liked the V1, to me the arrows are useless. If you're going fast, slow down who cares if it'e coming from the left side.

What we really need is a police car detectors GPS style. Cruisers with radar need to put out a signal that can be displayed on a gps map so we could just avoid them.

The police cars already have it, we need a hack to get the frequency or signal that they use to track them.

Valentine Research has a patent on the arrows and more than one antenna facing opposite each other in a radar detector so nobody can use that technique.

• SpeedAlert™ provides vehicle speed during each alert.
The PASSPORT 9500i provides all the information you need to make an intelligent decision during each and every alert. The radar or laser band, signal strength, and now your vehicle speed are displayed during an alert to help you make the best possible decision.
I love how it gives you the option to make your "best possible decision" for the speed you are going...

Pull over or run and hide!

How long has Valentine been around? The 80's? They've got to be coming up on the end of that patent's life pretty soon

I don't think I'd want either of those features. Some cops are crafty, and I've seen more than a few hide out by mini malls or places known to give a lot of false X and K band. I'd rather get a blip than a ticket.

The GPS location reminder thing also seems pretty useless.

I'll stick with my V1. It's paid for itself several hundred times over.

The detector companies are digging deep to try and sell new units, hence the GPS capability discussed here. IMO its little incentive to upgrade from a V1 or older Passport unit.
