They (politicians and whomever) have been trying to get Germany to do away with the unlimited autobahn stretches for quite a while now... 10+ years and still no result. I doubt it will ever happen. (fingers crossed)

BUT if it does happen, I can at least say that I enjoyed the autobahn for 14 months in my M3 while living in Germany on assignment.
