Anyone who buys a car for anything other than driving it and enjoying it is deluding themself.
I think that the 10k/yr still holds water. I just purchased a 2005 997 with 15k miles for 63K. MSRP was 88K. I looked around for one in pristine condition and bargained hard for it. Trading the car in is another story. You will always lose your shirt. If you sell it by yourself, you can get much higher prices.

A month ago, I took advantage of the depreciation and picked up an '06 C4. The car was 10 months old with 5k miles on it. I got a great deal and picked up an $86,110 sticker car for a lot less.
Depreciation sucks, but Porsche is no different than any other auto manufacturer these days. Mass produced cars are never a good financial investment, but as was mentioned earlier, this investment has changed my life for the better. I've been cycling through cars every 2 years for a while, but I've NEVER driven anything as fun as my Porsche. I love my car more than I hate how much it will depreciate.
