dndodd is infamous around these parts
I am not sure you have to drop the engine to get the LSD out. I saw a picture of either a Boxster or a 911 where they had just pulled the transmission and left the engine in. Sure would be a lot simpler. I think it was on Rentech where I saw the picture.

You DO NOT have to drop the trans. Remove the half shafts, un-bolt the cover, and install the LSD. We did this on a GT2.

I think for the 997S non LSD you do have to drop the trans according to what I was told. I have a whole new learning curve with this rear engined car. It isn't like slapping a ring and pinion in a Mustang Cobra or the M3 for that matter. If I am wrong either way, thanks for the insight.
