Of course! Simple common sense rules of thumb:

Fit winter tires of the smallest recommended size.

Have snow shovel, windshield washer, ski jacket and gloves, and energy bars in the car.

Have the gas tank more than half full all the time if you can.

If the snow is deeper than 6", don't bother driving - you will rip off the front bumper.

Test braking distances early to get a sense of how quickly the car will stop.

Try an early morning snow test in an empty parking lot to get an idea of how the car behaves.

Stay with the flow of traffic - your biggest weakness is someone else doing something unexpected.

Be as S M O O T H with all controls as you can be.

Hose down the underside of the car when you can to get rid of salt.

Dry brakes, and avoid using parking brake.

Lightbulb

If I lived in Canada, I would own two vehicles.

A DD [snow use too] and a 911 C2S Coupe.

agreed.

I practically have OCD trying to keep 'nicer' cars clean so theres no way I could bear seeing the 997 covered in salt for weeks

I just put a new set of Pirelli sotto zero series 2 sizes 235/35/19 295/30/19 front and back respectively and have been planted like glue so far everyday this winter here in Toronto. Anyone considering these tires and is local can experience them first hand just pm me. They are incredible. My cost is $2000 for all 4. Steep yes but you look good all year around by not having to resort to narrow 18" wheels.

the best advice if you live in canada and you want to drive all winter with one car would be to get a c4s with the previously mentioned winter snows. i got sotozeros from tire rack for my turbo, paid a bunch less, but maybe it is a money conversion thing?

I've done many years in rwd cars through entire Alberta winters and I've managed but I'm admitting now that AWD would have helped a lot. I'm loving my 4S so far and look forward to seeing how it does through the rest of the season.

Yes the conversion, duty, tax and shipping end up costing us a lot more here in Canada for those tires. They cost me $1890 Canadian.

Make that another Albertan driving a 911 thru winter
Mine's a C4 and it's holding up great!
Just drive at a controlled pace and it's no different from other cars, in fact I feel it is better!

So far I've seen:

997 C2 with snow tires
Cayman with snow tires
996 C4S with snow tires

Doesn't seem that rare in Montreal!

I agree with MelsM3. That is what I am doing. I am surprised to see the number of people on the Forum that don't seem concerned about the effects of road salt, sand, etc. on their cars. Also a C4S will not go through a car wash with a track - at least ones I have asked.

Have to agree with this...

They are out there,no doubt.

BUT:
I wouldn't....I couldn't...it would kill me !
Each his own...
I envy ones that do drive their cars all the time, just wish I could!

I cant believe many of you feel comfortable driving your porsches in snowy conditions. I drive my car about 12k a year, the C2S that is and I feel so uncomfortable even in rain. I guess that its partly because I've had so many SUV's in the past. I also dont think the normal 19" PS2s are very good in rain, etc.. I give you who are out in wintery conditions a lot of credit for feeling confident in what these pcars are capable of. Drive safely out there everybody.

Whoo-hoo! We had almost 5" of snow last night in Chicago and driving home (once most of the traffic had cleared) was an absolute blast! PSM on sport meant the back end got nice and loose. It's amazing how far it goes before PSM cuts in. Albeit in the snow it's at very low speeds. The whole thing made me want to do the Camp 4 the winter/snow driving course in Finland. The idea of driving a 911 on a frozen snow covered lake is amazing.

If you've got it enjoy it!

Why not?

This is no problem for a 911. It's when the snow gets deep that it's not possible.
