Brand New Car - Funny Smell

Hello everyone, after a few posts here and there, and tons of reading of all of your posts i just wanted to say that i finally took delivery of my 08' 997 C2, will post pics in a few days, just wanted to reach out and ask a question, the car has about 120 mi on it, and there is a weird sent coming from it, kinda of like a steamy slightly burning scent, i just wanted to see if anyone else experienced the same sensation. My neighbor with a GT3 tells me its normal for the first 1,000 mi, please advise,
thanks in advance,
Steve

Before shipment via the big ship that brought your car over, the underside of the car was sprayed with an anti corrosive substance called cosmoline. This prevents all of the raw metallic surfaces from oxidizing during their trip through the salty air. If you look on the floor of your garage, you may see some small tan colored spots. This is cosmoline that has melted off. Some cars are cleaned of cosmoline before delivery and some are not. Doesn't matter, and either way, I'm sure that's the smell you're experiencing. It'll go away soon. All good.

Could be a lot worse, like wifey putting a 15# box of slightly melting/leaking shrimp in my boot. Never thought that the air in the boot would make it into the cabin but as I was getting close to home the smell got stronger and stronger. Lucky for me that The huge towel that I keep in the boot was all that got wet. Still had to air it out for a few days.

Oh yeah, you have the new car burning smell. When it's gone you will be left with the sweet smell of Porsche leather.
