2006 gts viper question????

I use to own a 1999 gts viper black with flat black stripes sitting on 20" hre wheels. I was never happy with the way the car drove. Maybe it's just me. The car got tons of looks but just wasn't that happy with it. The a/c on the car wasnt the best unless you where going over 100mph. I dont know if thats just cause of the one I have or if all the a/c suck. My other buddies where the same way. I'm now thinking about getting a 2006 SRT-10 and was wondering if the ride better and how there a/c is. Looking for feedback or anything thought on the 2006 SRT-10 viper.

Thanks

The two cars, gen 2 GTS (1996- 2002) versus the gen 3 car (2003-present) are completely different. I currently own a gen 2 and I absolutely love it for the styling and its unrefined feel. My business partner owns a gen 3 car and I've driven it a couple of times.

The layout is much better in the gen 3. In the gen 2, the driver actually sits at a bit of an angle to make room for the tranny. The gen 3 has better brakes, more power, and acts more like a company produced automobile. The gen 2 has a bit of a "kit car" feel.

As for not liking how they drive, I'm going to assume you mean comfort wise and not performance. These cars are monsters on the track.

All in all, the new style car is still a viper, tt is just a bit more refined.

I would take off the 20's and put the stock wheels back on. Then come back and tell us how you like it. 20's may look good, but performance wise, they suck ***.

The a/c in the GEN I/II cars wasnt that great, but they werent the worse, thats for sure. The a/c in the new SRT's ('03 and up) actually blows very cold air and keeps up very well with the inside and outside temps. Eliminate the crossover, do high-flow cats and you'll get rid of most of the heat that will enter the cabin from the exhaust.

No Viper drives like a Caddy and never will no matter what you do to it, but the SRT, IMO, feels a little smoother than a GEN I/II. If you swap out the suspension and lower it a bit, the ride will actually improve. Wheel-hop will almost be eliminated.

Yes thats what i mean the comfort of driving the beast. I know the car is a beast on the track but driving it around on the street kills.

Thanks

I ran the stock wheels and yes it was a little smoother. I know they will never feel like a caddy. I really like the viper and thats why i want to get back into one. But i just want to make the right choice this go around.

You must have been stock, I sold the ACR, but it was incredible on track and fine on the street, extremely sharp handling, raw, solid etc. The a/c was fine, if you were stock the exhaust is so bottlenecked it holds in heat, when opened up its perfect, I could drive in South FL with a/c off and windows down. Most of the Vipers came from the factory with some funky suspension settings (not really funky but sometimes each shock could be at slightly different settings) but easily fixed as you could adjust to your liking, for some reason the right side originally was set different from the factory, no biggie, few clicks and it was normal. Personally I thought it was comfortable, just not in a Lexus way. Moton shocks made it drive not only smoother but even sharper in handling, the later ACR's had overkill springs for the street, pretty much anyone swapped them as it was a straight track spring at 1100lbs....way to harsh for the street.

Looking at 08's and can't make my mind up between SSG or Violet, that new Violet is a beaut. I know your looking at 06's, but see if you can drive an 08', the new suspension and other changes (diff etc) make for a hell of an experience, nevermind the new engine is wicked.
