The internals are cast though, so you'll be living on borrowed time. This is basically a based vette engine. And if you've dealt with vette engines before, you know they get real upset when you start messing with them.

I agree and disagree... I have seen some great FI numbers on LS2/3s and a C6Z with a cam and a blower pushing 673 to the wheels and been running strong for a very long time. You are correct though, cast aren't as strong but I believe something is up with the way they are made today to show the performance they have for the time they have. Not to mention, perfect example would be the powdered rods... some said nothing past 600 to 650 but yet cars running around with 700 and even 800 at the wheels taking a pounding mile after mile with no problems/issues.

That's a chance I for one wont be taking again.

Most tuners are claiming high 400 whp with a few mods. Dont think I've seen a pulley change yet, but the other stuff isnt gaining like usual on a SC car. I think GM put this car on the edge already, and getting more power is going to cause problems.

I'd love to be proven wrong because I may opt to get one, but I'm not keeping my hopes up.

I'd think they'd do better then 400 whp with a few mods. My GTO laid down 370/370 with just a tune.

Are you seriously considering that ? I went to check one out yesterday, took it for a test drive (good friends with the dealer) what a car it is but its no zo6. I would never trade my Z for it, but i do plan on buying one. Lease is up on my jeep srt8 and its the perfect replacement for that. But if it was between the
Z and the CTS-V i would take the Z anyday.

are you sure about that?
All of the test mules have GM Performance forged rods and pistons.
how can gm get certified testing with fuel and hp etc ratings if they have different internals between testing and production?

Totally false. The LSx series LOVES bolt-ons and cam/head swaps, even boost if you don't go to crazy. Why do you thing you see LSx swaps in anything from Mustangs to RX-7's? They are probably one of, if not the best modern engine platforms.

The LSx series loves bolt-ons? Tell that to all of the C6Z owners with blown engines, stock and slightly modded. There are a billion vettes, but I bet you for every success story there are ten with engine trouble. Besides bolt-ons does not count as FI, and there are more than a fare share of blown (literally and figuratively) LS motors.

Since the bolt ons arent yeilding much power, we'll see how the motors hold up with bigger SC's and pulley swaps.

Seems so about cast internals, powdered rods for the 2009 CTS-V and I can't wrap my mind around it either.

I am sure tuners that help people get gains with these cars will place A/F at 11.50s to 11.60s to be safe and longevity for the car.

So GM put forged rods in the pre-production cars? Is that true?

The "blown" C6 ZO6 engines are due to the not so great dry sump oiling system which has been fixed for '09.

NOTHING to do with bolt-ons. Please get your facts correct before posting such incorrect statements....
