My Procharged Pro Touring 68 Camaro build thread
+Rep points for the long wait but it will all be worth it. That car ROCKS!!
Thanks Dick. Yes, please come by and say hello in the Gearhead Garage area.
Thanks bro.
Thanks man.
Many reasons for the extended build time:
1. My first build from ground up
2. Problems with 1st shop I contracted with
3. I added more parts and $ to the budget
4. A small engine fire a few months

I knew enough to have good insurance WHILE the car was being built. Thank God.
Thought about the roll bar, but this is mainly built for street duty so I won't be wearing a helmet and would just bang my head on the cross bar with those low back seats.
Well I had a good Saturday afternoon of some tire-shredding, clutch-break-in driving around the Gearhead Garage shop in Sacramento. Absolutely no traction in 1st, 2nd or 3rd even with the 335 drag radials. I asked Jason if we could move the motor to the back before the end of this week.
Just after I gassed her up with some pathetic California 91 octane and prior to getting on the freeway for some 4th gear pulls, an electrical gremlin bit us in the ****. A faulty circuit breaker in the trunk was the culprit we found out on Monday.
But the 15 street miles I put on her were mostly full throttle 1st thru 3rd pulls. I beat on it pretty hard and that was the intent to try to put it through some hard field testing before we take the road trip to Pleasanton this Friday.
Apparently my shakedown runs on Saturday did some good workin over of the motor - we have a blown head gasket now. Luckily no collateral damage as it stands now. Heads warped just a tad but that isn't a biggie. Gonna try to get it buttoned up in order to get dyno tuned on Thursday and then head to the GoodGuys show on Friday with the rest of the gang. I've waited too long to miss this last show of the year.
This week we are also planning to put in some steering stops and hopefully extend the exhaust with tails. It is extremely loud, which I do not mind, but the backfiring on deceleration every time I can probably live without. I told Jason I liked backfiring when I was 14 but not now.
Of course we had planned on taking pics and doing some video toward the end of the cruise but it was cut a little short. It was the best day I have had yet with this car in the 3 year journey, and I can't wait til this weekend to cruise and hang with the guys for the GG show.
More pics and vids to come soon!

Any idea why the heads warped and how that isn't a biggie? Just curious.

Not sure on the heads but I am told it is minor and not an issue. Heads, valvetrain, etc being checked and gone thru today/tmrw.

Whew, what a weekend. Want to first say thanks to all the gang (Jason, Sean, Mert, Jonny, Mike, and Logan) from Gearhead Garage who got my car done in time to take to the show in Pleasanton this weekend. We had a great indoor spot on the end near their display booth in the Young California building. Since it was kinda chilly this weekend and rained Friday night/Sat morning, that worked out really well.
The 200 mile round trip drive from Sac to Pleasanton and back went very well with only a couple small minor things to address later, but nothing to hinder the drive and fun. The car still needs to be dyno tuned, probably later this week, and a few other little tweaks, but it was responsive and loud and a blast to cruise down the road. It should only get better. Thought I would share some pics from the weekend...
Oh and much to my surprise, I actually won an award. The "Cool Camaro" award, which is pretty neat since there are a ton of Camaros at each show.
Gassing up heading out of Sac on Friday. Jason's shop car behind me - 68 Magnacharged LS2 stroker Convertible

My buddy Ron's 69 Chevelle on the left

69 Camaro display car for Gearhead. This car is mint. Just came back from SEMA

End of the weekend fun in the Gearhead parking lot with their shop toy. a 7.5hp swiveling-stool death mobile!
