Restomods?

Hi guys,

I don't post that much but have been lurking for sometime and noticed quite a bit of restomod projects on here. My current situation doesn't allow me to build my own, so my only option is to buy something turnkey.

I moved out of the country a few years ago and this October should be my first time back. I've been drooling over some of these machines that I just can't get my hands on here in Shanghai, so I am considering the purchase of something like a late-60s Mustang to take on a roadtrip upon arriving home. I'm just after a tame, well-done setup to cruise in and possibly build into something a bit wilder later. One limitation I have is that it must be an auto, as my old man doesn't know how to row the gears and he'll be behind the wheel for most of the time she's on the road for.

Could you guys list off a few forums I could peruse to get an idea of the market? I've had a few toys before (Ford Lightning, for one) but have never had my hands on anything quite like what I'm after.

Thanks in advance!

Did you check on any of the mustang forums? Looking at live and historical ebay auctions might be a good place to look as well.

Been perusing Corral and eBay among a few others, but no real leads. It looks like I may need to up my budget if I want something truly turnkey. I originally wanted to keep it within $15k to $20k but the cars I'm seeing in that range still require a bit of work or aren't the right combination I'm after. Ideally, I'd like to find a late '60s Mustang that's 302 EFI or modular-powered with a streetable AOD setup)....something more "grand touring" than anything. Would go Chevy if I could find something comparable to the above combo (late '60s Camaro with an LSX and similar tranny).

Are there any cross-brand / cross-platform restomod forums or similar resources online?

Guess I'll keep on digging.....

My guess is that you wont find what you're looking for in that price range. I would expect to spend twice that (or more) for something decent.

I'm with you on that. I may have to rework my budget if I can't find anything suitable.

I've built a few. We call them pro-touring cars. You won't find a clean 67-69 Camaro with an LS1 in it for under $30K most likely. Here are the two sites to hang out on

www.lateral-g.net
