viper

Hence the reason many people wreck their vipers soon after purchase. Ive had 6 of them and swear they are unpredictable when going WOT. As others have said , good tires and a quaiffe will def help. The car has so much low end torque though, that youll spin the tires no matter what if you get on it too aggressively at lower speeds. Hell, my supercharged SRT would lite up the tires at 70 mph if I punched it too hard and hit a bad spot of pavement.

Bottom line is you have to respect this car at all times. In the real world youll hit bad road conditions, youll be tired and not paying attention, having a bad day...whatever. If you want a car to drive in all conditions with minimal worry, get an AWD like a pcar turbo or GTR. Both great cars and make you look perfect all the time.

Most powerful RWD cars spin the tires hard at low speeds, but the Viper does it more suddenly and brutally due to its torque. Its just something that you have to get used to and know that you may have to back off a little bit when you go to 2nd gear.

If you have the runflats throw them away and get some PS2's. Won't solve all your problems but will help A LOT!!!

You can't win can you? I guess throttle control is the only key, I am so used to it now that it only scares my passengers!

The safest way is to shift early on 1st.... or you can do 1st without having the foot all the way down.

When I had my 2002 Z06 it was very tail happy from 1st to 2nd... on 3rd it liked to get sideway a bit too.. but not too much... what i used to do was 1st to 2nd without pressing it all the way down.. remember the longer you are spinning the slower you are going.. you gotta find the sweet spot between having no grip and putting most of the power to the tires.

then get some DR but it will still take knowing your car... the viper will probably get loose just about any tires... so get to know your car... and respect it...

It is easier to control with a manual transmission, I have noticed that the Vipers are more sudden and brutal when the rear end decides to come out from under it. I can hold my Vette at an angle which may look like its travelling straight but not for hours!

When a Viper's tail comes out, you have to either be on your game and very good at controlling a car with vicious characteristics; or like 99.9% of drivers, try and keep it from hitting something.

My tail came out early in the season on a beach road. I powered into the slide and corrected. When I hit full steering lock and the tail wasn't coming back in, I did everything to keep the car in the middle of the road, and basically held on. Luckily the car did stay in the road.

Like Jeremy Clarkson said, 'once you pass the level of adhesion, it kills you'.
