I've developed a bit of interest in the 300 SRT8 recently. Nice car with a lot of features not to mention the huge amount of HP and torque.

The one question I have is about the transmission. Is the autostick transmission like a dual clutch transmission and, if so, how similar? What I'm really interested in is how fast is the response when you shift? In vehicles that have the DCT, PDK and similar transmissions the shifting is instantaneous, so I'm wondering if the SRT8's trans is like this?

I guess the one way to find out is to test drive an SRT8, but short of that I was wondering if you guys could offer opinions if you have one or have driven one.

The only fly in the Chrysler 300 SRT8’s soup is the 5-speed automatic transmission. It does a good job overall in handling the prodigious horsepower and torque, and is fine in the normal drive mode. But when you wish to use the paddle shifters, you’ll find that they shift slower than you’d like, and feel clunky in operation. The new 8-speed unit can’t come soon enough.
