Quick Question to AMG owners

I am currently looking at SL and CL 55's. I have always been interested in the SL/CL AMG's and have a quick question. Since I have never owned a MB before, how is the warranty on the MB's and how much is maintainence on these cars.

I am debating between M5/M6 and these AMG's and the BMW warranty program (with everything covered from oil to brakes) is looking good. But if the MB maintainence isn't bad, I wouldn't mind picking one up.

Thank You!!

Hello there,

I dont own the larger AMG's but I have a 2006 SLK55 that is with me for a year and 7months to be exact. I waited 7months for it to arrive from Stuttgart as it is a special order for the paint and wood veneer,The car has been a joy to own and I find Mercedes has really improved in quality and detail over the last 4-5 years.

Early SL's used to have many recalls and so were E-class W211's, However my Mercedes has no problems so far(knock on wood) maintainence is regular first service is on 5,000km and the next one is every 15,000km. Basically the 30,000km is the major service while the 15,000km are just regular service intervals where they inspect the oil, oilfilter and airfilters. It doesnt cost alot to maintaine however if you are used to driving manual equipped cars you might get bored of the Autogearbox. The dealership over here is great and they guided me through in adding the MB Ipod kit and Bluetooth module, I highly reccomend Mercedes now a days because I noticed that they improved substantially from the days where they released the W163(had one minor problems back and forth).

I've been a long time MB fan and so are my parents: Mercedes's we have owned are a 94 C180 W202, 450SLC, 300-24V SL R129, S320 (w220),S350 (w220),S350(W221) and my SLK.

In regards to your purchase between an SL and CL would be a tough choice, but I like the CL65's its a tough looking car and has nice lines which could make it a future classic in comparison to the nice yet rounded CL W216 that is currently offered.

My experience with both MB and BMW has been the following...make sure you purchase an extended warranty, and these cars are not totally reliable DD (so you'd better have another vehicle in the garage while your german ride visits the Stealership).

Long ago, I have heard that once you own a Benz you will always own one, it is true. Currently, on my 4th and 5th and still own them both. W210 RennTech E55 and DD ML55, both AMG's. For what they are intended, AMG's are good cars and I enjoy their endless torque and V8 power. Something sexy about a 4 door sleeper that can haul full sized adults comfortably and shut down a fair number of "sport" cars at the same time. However, as previously mentioned find yourself a good MZB mechanic as I too wish they where more reliable.

I think MB ended the total maintenance program in '04. I bought an after market warranty just to be safe, but I've never had a big issue.
Broken motor mounts, tranny mount is the extent of it. Could that be a result of 530lbs of torque at the wheels? Maybe.

You can pick up 70 to 90rwhp and torque for a mere 5 to 6k.

The cars are brutally fast in a straight line up to 100 but don't expect 911 action in the turns.

I considered the M's but found that the low end MB torque brings me more pleasure than the beautiful sound of an M engine at 8k.

MB have retarded amounts of low-end. Very fun to drive. Just getting it up to 3k rpm it shoving your neck on the headrest.

M5/M6's are a totally different animal. They make more top-end power. Similiar to an F1 engine.

Hands down AMG for a DD>
