Boost Pressure in Second Gear

It is likely just in my head, but I feel like I am not getting full boost pressure in second gear. The meter runs up to about 9-10 pounds of boost and then starts to go down. I am getting all the way to the 18 pound level with overboost in higher gears. Is it normal to not reach the top of the meter in second. I seem to be hitting very high RPMs before it can spool up all the way. Otherwise, the car is running fine and has no warning lights, etc.

I am a real novice when it comes to mechanical issues and how the turbos/engine operates. Is it possible to have a problem with the turbos just in a certain gear? Is this worth a trip to the dealer?

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

It's probably too small of a gear for the Turbo's to fully spool

Must just be in my head if nobody else has experienced this. If a turbo began to fail or have difficulty, would I get a "check engine" light or other notification?

Hello there,

I tested my car today. I've found that you see higher boost pressure if you start at a real low rpm and floor the throttle. So the procedure is: Start at 1800 rpm or so, then floor throttle. I saw 17 psi with Sport Chrono on, and 12-13 psi with Sport Chrono off.

Hope this helps.
