2 questions about tires

hey guys. i need some help replacing tires. i bought my car with victor equipment turismo wheels and michelin pilot sport ps2's. the car had 235/40/18 fronts, and 265/40/18 on the rear. i replaced the tires a year ago, and now the rears need to be changed after about 15K miles.

my first question is, how can i check the rim width and what tire size would be recommended? if necessary, i can get it on a lift and take the rim off, but if i can look on it somewhere, thatd be much easier.

second question, which probably depends on the first, would be should i stick with michelin pilot sport ps2's, or should i switch to another tire and/or another size? I've also heard of people running 265/35's or 255/40's or 255/35's. i guess that depends on the rim dimensions, but just curious. thanks

generally, if you take the wheel off the car and peek into the inside of the spokes, on the wheels there will be a size engraved into the wheel...

the tire sizes depend on the wheel width also, but id stick with the PS2s or go with a Pirelli PZero.

yea, i think im just stickin with the size i have now. i can get the tires wholesale and have them at the shop by tomorrow morning so screw it. pirelli pzeros are even more expensive! its only a base boxster or else i would justify buying more expensive tires haha thanks

Maybe some members here would know your rim widths if you stated the car and model.

As to tire sizing, don't guess. Use the following tire calculator.

In my opinion stick with Michelin.

I just threw out the Bridgestone runflats that came with my 530i. What junk! They were so noisey I was going crazy and they caused the car to wander. I just put all new Michelin PS2's and what an incredible difference in the car!

most likely your wheel width is 18x8.5 and 18x9.5. Victor Equipment only make 18x8.5, 18x9.5 and 18x11. Based on your rear tire size i do not think you hav am 11" wide wheel

Alex is correct. The size will likely be in the casting on the back of one spoke. 18J x __. If 10" or less 265 or maybe 275 is the best tire size to use.
