Max Rear Tire for 996 NB

I have a set of sport design wheels, same ones on the earlier euro gt3, and want to know the max tire I can comfortably fit in the back. The back rim is only 9" wide. The local tire shop said they could fit 285/30/18 but what I have found from the tire manufacturer's websites is that 285s should be put on 9.5"-10.5" rims. Any suggestions on size and a good brand of tire that can handle DE/autocrossing as well as the street?

On a 9" wheel you should go no bigger than 275/35. 285's are too wide unless the wheel is a 10"

Can you get 285's on a 9" wheel? Sure, if you want to do things with the "bigger hammer" mentality. But in doing it you will be overstressing the tires construction. That causes heat and heat causes lots of other bad things.

Can you? Yes. SHOULD you? No way....

I have a 295 30 19 on a 19x10.5 at a 52mm offset! But you can go 305 30 19 on a 19x11 at a 65mm offset! What im trying to say is i would go wider!
