CLK Black - battery charger connectoin question..

There is a square RED plastic cap in the engine bay marked with the + positive sign and a large spade connector beneath....can anyone confirm that this can be used to connect a battery charger to, i.e. battery tender, CTEK, etc? I ask because there is a battery charger connection in the trunk, but obviously configured to only accept a MB charger unless I do a 'cut and splice' which I'd rather not do. Thanks!

tssci,
Since you can only jump start from the contacts located in the engine compartment this is where you would connect a battery charger. The manual suggests that you not use the maintenance interface if you have a fully discharged battery but remove the battery for charging. Are you hooking up a tender or charger?

CLK Black...battery tender..

Jimmy - thanks for your prompt and informative response. Yes, I simply want to connect a Battery Tender or CTEK unit - both are maintenance/trickle chargers. It sounds like you agree that the engine connection would be OK - correct?

I don't believe the connection in the trunk is only for an MB charger. A number of battery chargers come with optional connectors to match the ones in the trunk.
