This Mercedes had a Passport 8500 with one of these cords running down the dash and plugged into the cigarette lighter.






We offered to hardwire the Passport with one of their SmartCords which retains the Mute Button and Display.






Ignition switched on and off power was accessed from the power wire to the cigarette lighter and the display was placed in the ashtray (non-smoker car). The 12volt port/cigarette lighter is still functional. To make this work, the center console cover needed to come out, the wire with the in-line fuse for the SmartCord had to be cut and soldered & shrink wrapped back together as the in-line fuse housing would not fit through the hole in the ashtray. Also the little rectangular shaped, white plastic lens that lets light into the ashtray was filed down to fit the wires for the SmartCord.























The Radar Detector location worked out good as the SunVisor can still be lowered without hitting the radar detector or blocking it.






Can still close up the door that covers the ashtray area.
