?padding to avoid trauma to back @ racing school

Need help regarding some type of padding/device to prevent back bruising during Skip Barber formula schools. I am relatively thin and have ended up bruising my back during carting events(25 min driving) as well as at a Skip Barber car control clinic. During the latter I drove a formula type car for over one hour on an autocross type course and ended up with abrasions on my back that took weeks to heal. I never noticed the issue during the events with adrenalin level running high-but I paid for it later. I wonder if I am not belted in tightly enough? The formula cars have very thin padding on the seats. I am really concerned as I am going to do a 3 day racing school in the formula cars soon. I saw someone a while back with a carbon fiber device with padding that he put around his midsection but wasn't sure if this would do the trick. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
