My 997.2 TT review (after 2000 mile break in)
My 997.2 TT review (after 2000 mile break in)
Here is a follow up to the initial review of my 2010 997.2 pdk.
I figured the best place to test the car after the break in was the track. Luckily there was an event at Inde MotorSports Ranch last weekend. I drove down from Phoenix on a set of used adv.1 wheels I bought from Vivid Racing and brand new Toyo R888 tires.

I don't have much track experience, only a few days a year so I took it pretty easy to start off. The track is also pretty challenging. After a few sessions an instructor from Bonderant offered to show me how its done in my car. Here he is driving with me as a passenger. He did about 3 or 4 laps with me and then I went off on my own again. After learning from him, I was able to push the car a bit further and get a good feeling of it.

Review:
Acceleration
The acceleration is incredible and I have not even tried full blown launch yet. I was below 130 mph most of the time and the acceleration at any point was immediate. I felt no turbo lag or waiting for the car to shift down and give me power. I kept the car in sports plus mode the entire time.
Braking
The straight away is 2200 feet on this track and I was reaching 130 before letting off and braking well ahead of time of the turn. I felt the brakes to be very responsive and have more than enough power to get me stopped.
PDK
At first I was trying to drive the car and select the gears but then I forgot about it and just concentrated on the track. As the PDK went up and down in gears I was almost always where i needed to be. I guess as I get better on the track I will want more control but most of the time it was perfect.
Suspension
After watching some other videos of 997.2 TT videos on the track I was expecting the ride to be too rough, but it wasn't. It seemed balanced quite well.
Non paddle shifter steering wheel
The instructor that showed me how its done seemed to like the car alot and he was quite surprised with how fast it was. This car was new to him and I showed him how the controls on the steering wheel operates in a few seconds. He had no problems working the up and down on the steering wheel that everyone hates. Myself, after using it on the track I also found it to work just fine. Perhaps the other one works much better, I don't know as I have never tried it but I don't understand why this one frustrates everyone.
Temps
I was talking to Todd at Evoms and he said his temps in his 997.2 TT were quite high. I noticed mine were at 250F as well on my last session but the car seemed fine. After the day I drove 3 hours back to Phoenix with no issues.
Other then using the Toyo R888 tires, I really don't think this car needs anything done to it. I really don't see where it needs more power. I am quite happy.
