Oil on motor! Normal?
Oil on motor! Normal?
Hello Everyone
I was lurking on the forums for the past few months. I bought a 997.1 GT3 three months ago and already found some helpful information on here. I also came across several threads about leaking main seals. Therefore I decided to take a look at my own car.
I'm a little worried about what I saw. Could some of the more experienced GT3 folks please chime in and tell me their opinions.
The car has now approx. 9k miles (15k kilometers) and is almost three years old. The former owner never tracked the car and neither did I.
I also found some marks on several parts (pic 8 and 9). Do these marks mean that someone already worked on the car in the past or are these from the factory?
Please also note how "dirty" the motor is in the first pic.

Hello, Swissmade
1. I don't see oil. What I think you are seeing is a kind of factory gook, like old-fashioned Cosmoline. Easily removed with a citrus-based cleaner and soft brush. After cleaning, then any non-standard oil can be more easily seen.
2. The yellow stripe from the hex fitting onto the casting appears to be the work of a good mechanic. It's a "witness" or "tell-tale" mark, which will readily show any loosening of the fitting. May be factory, but also may be the result of some service done in the last 3 years.
3. The blue "-25" seems just an assembly totem of some sort. Not unusual at all.
Enjoy the ride !
