D-Bag bails on Veyron Auction

I am sure some of you saw the Barrett Jackson auction from Las Vegas yday. The big car was a 2008 Veyron w/ 11,800 miles. The bidding stalled and was finally hammered down for $700,000+auction fees. The winning bidder shakes the buyer's assistant hand and a few people in the crown and even gives the auction assistant his bidder number showing he won the auction but later bails so Craig Jackson ends up buying the car to maintain the auctions integrity. Anyways, the story is here. What a D-bag.

and a video of the auction. The D-bag wearing the awesome headband is the reneging bidder.

700k for a Bugatti and he bailed? That's a great deal even if the miles are high.

It is rumored that is the one that went into a Texas salt water lake. Not sure of the validity of that claim.

More then likely he was a shill bidder for BJ. It is insane that it went that low and without a reserve. Or he found out the history and walked which you have every right to do, BJ or any auction house only does a cursory history check on the cars.

Also I bid occasionally at BJ and other auctions given that you need to front 10% just to get to a bid limit. that's a 70K walk away if he is a real bidder.

Two different cars.

This one that sold was a Clean CA car. EU California had it for sale for about a million for a long time...

Well the car ended up being quite the buy since it was not the submerged Veyron. 700,000$ is about 40% of the original retail on it.

I think Veyron's might become more valuable again if (when) Bugatti cease production.

Just watched this video(don't know if it is a repost) but apparently the car was not in mint condition.

Thanks for sharing. Is it me or they all sound pretty stupid except the owner?

Maybe it's just me but this auction drama looks like it was all planned out.
