PDK trans vs tiptronic

hi guys,

I had a 997.2 c4s and am thinking of getting a 997TT 2008 TIP. any comments on shifting speed, torque comparison, overall feel? Is the tip going to feel like a slow audi TIP? Is the only place to shift on the steering wheel?

thanks.

They can shift pretty quick with a software update. In terms of the steering wheel shift buttons, they can have a bit of a delayed reaction. I definitely like it better than the tiptronics in the Audi, as the Porsche uses a much better ZF unit.

PDK is great, I would never have bought a tip car no matter how cheap it was. Then I drove a PDK car and I was sold. Love the sport wheel with paddle shifters, it is one of the nicest looking wheels in any car. Spend the extra money and get an 09 or later car.

The PDK wasn't available in the turbo until the '10 model year…this includes the new engine, rear led lights, etc. PDK was released however in '09 for the 911C, CS, C4S, etc…same goes for the led lights.

If your budget affords you a 2010 or newer model, and you don't plan to heavily mod, then I think most would agree to get the newer turbo. In that case, I would get the turbo S with PCCB and adaptive sport seats.

You really need some seat time in the tip turbo to understand how capable it is. They perform quite well and are perfectly suited to the turbo, torque, etc. As quick as these cars are, you literally hold on as the rocket-ship propels you forward. It's not the same experience as a 6spd and doesn't pretend to be. Want a manual simply buy that instead. Back to the overall question on the tip. It's a very robust transmission and with a tune and exhaust is capable of mid to high 10's. This is roughly the same time you would achieve doing the same with a PDK turbo.

Do some research, some of the quickest turbos in this forum have tips.

I think the ZF's ended with the 996. The 997 uses the 722.6

I thought the 722.6 was made by ZF, but I could be wrong. The PDK is a ZF 7DT.
