OCC for turbos?

Hi

Any one running oil catch can (s) on the Mezger engine?

I have a thin film of oil on my driver side pipe from the Ic.

I guess its nothing to care about since the car is port injected, but it got me curious, any one running a OCC setup on those engines?

I've never seen any discussion of catch cans for the 997.1 TT.

At the place where you describe the oil film--between the IC and Y-pipe--the crankcase vapor hasn't been injected into the intake airstream. That happens at the intake plenum. I guess the turbo compression chamber is the oil source. If you feel the film is excessive in some way, then have it checked out. I've only ever encountered just a lightly-greasy feel in those pipes/hoses--nothing that seemed like it needed to be cleaned up.

Well its just a thin clear oil film, exhaust side of the turbo looked just fine but maybe compressor side is worse. Will check it soon, need to put stock exhaust back on.

Any "oil" in your exhaust turbine area would be in the form of smoke. The high heat in the exhaust won't allow any oil films.

On the compression side, the air enters the chamber straight from the air box--relatively cool. It heats under compression, which is why the ICs exist. The spindle on which the exhaust turbine and compressor blade spin has a seal to keep oil from leaking into the compression chamber. At 100,000 rpm, I wouldn't be surprised if a little oil makes it into the compressed airstream. But, any excess might signal an out of balance spindle, or a bad seal.

Good luck,
LP
