1982 Kawasaki GPz 750 for sale in Northern VA
1982 Kawasaki GPz 750 for sale in Northern VA
I bought this bike from the original last fall, it had been pushed over into a corner of the garage and forgotten about. It became my winter project to bring it back to life and for those of you that follow the car / bike market, you know the current thinking is to NOT restore them, but to clean them up as best you can and leave them original, because they can only be original once! For that reason I did not repaint some of the black areas on the engine or fix a small flaw in the front fairing, its a pure to stock as I can reasonably get it, and for a 32 -year old bike it looks pretty good. To go over the bike....
* I installed a Shorai lithium battery, expensive but they don't discharge like common lead-acid units.
* New tires and rear brake caliper was rebuilt. Chain and sprockets are new.
* I have the stock exhaust system for the bike (black chrome with "Kawasaki" riveted on the mufflers) but its rusty and try to find someone that will recoat in black chrome for under $ 2,000 - you can't. I spend hours searching for pipes...and finally found a brand new set of period correct Kerkers for the GPZ in a little shop in Kansas - they had been carrying this in their back room since the late 80's and its probably the last new set of Kerkers anywhere. Supertrapp (maker of Kerkers) stopped making these in the late 90's. I paid $ 600 for these, too! They have less than 5 miles on them. Installed with new gaskets, of course.
* The seat was hard to locate. The prior owner has a goofy king and queen seat and it had to go. This was the most pure stock seat I could find over a 3 month period and it is the correct one for the bike. It was not cheap to buy.
* Owner's manual comes with the bike, a full factory service manual in a binder and the plastic chainguard come with it, too. There is only one key.
* Everything works as it should, done to the horn. No surprises, nothing broken or in need of attention. There is a very slight drag on the front brakes but not severe enough for me to take it all apart. Clutch, gears, brakes, acceleration, idling, full on power, handling....all great.
* Flaws? Not many. Three slight scratches in the headlight fairing that I touched up. Speedometer is not original, but the first owner told me it had been replaced at 2,200 miles, so true mileage on the bike is around 13,000 and it looks correct to me.
Inside of the tank is good. No leaks on forks or fairing, oil is fresh. You can ride this bike daily or just take it to the vintage Japanese meets. Clear VA title though it will have the odometer discrepancy noted.
Now, onto the price. Like most projects, I'm probably not going to get what I have in it back out of it. The market for these is moderate, but not as strong as other bikes of the era. However, I think this bike is better than most I've seen of its vintage. I have $ 4,080 into the bike, but i don't think it will pull that kind of price. I'm going to put it on Wash DC Craigslist for $ 3,500, but for inmates here, bring me $ 3,100 even and its yours. If you know the prior bikes I've put up here for sale, you know my rides are done right with no surprises. Anyways, enough jabber - you want photos....bike is located in Fairfax Station, VA 22039. Last photo shows the fairing scratches.
