finding service records for a pre-owned 997.1tt

Is there any way to find service records for a pre-owned 997.1tt? (other than calling up a dealership)

If calling up the dealership is the only option, do they readily provide this information? over the phone or has to be in person?

Any information that can be provided on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

A dealer is not required to give you any past service history. And most decline such requests as it is technically a violation of privacy (the previous owner's).

But, if you are friends with the dealer and ask nicely, they might let you see work done on the car that's in their system, on their computer. You could take notes if the service adviser lets you.

Some dealers are more lenient, others deny that they are able to see work done by other dealerships if the car wasn't serviced by them.

And of course, anything that's done outside of the Porsche dealer network is a gray area. Carfax has a decent database from participating repair facilities. If you see that in your car's Carfax you could call the shops and ask for more info. And again, shops don't make money on such requests and generally consider them a waste of their time so be super nice when you ask

Previous owner is your best option. Some Dealers are more liberal, but as indicated are not required to release that information. In fact, due to GLB and other privacy legislation, the information on service records will likely meet the definition or NPI data, and could expose them to liability if they do share the information.

Just FYI.

Good Luck,
DC

IIRC a dealer can only show you what work they have done and warranty work other dealers have done but not all work that has been done. It is hit or miss if a dealer will give you any of this unless you make it part of the pre-buying process.

Try running a carfax report usually the dealers report all info on there. Dealers actually get paid to report information to carfax

All of the above is correct, I just wanted to add my experience... the carfax showed plenty of service visits, but the details were unclear. The car I bought was serviced at multiple porsche dealers, and most were very polite to give me detailed service records when I called. One was more protective, claiming I had to have paperwork or a written request first, but then the relented and gave me a general summary when I simply asked if it had the plugs changed or not.
I placed calls and simply gave them the vin, all before I bought the car. I found it helpful to write notes on the carfax report directly, given the multiple service locations.
