Identify this leak

Hey guys was hoping someone could help me identify the issue here, this cannot be normal.

I noticed this streak of grease on my wheel when removing my OEM wheels.

Then i crawled under the car and it looks like there must be some sort of seal failure on the hub somewhere as there is what seems to me to be an extreme amount of grease.

Has anyone seen or had this happen to them before? I haven't checked the driver side yet to see if it is on both front wheels, but the passenger rear is fine.

Any ideas? I will likely take it to my shop to investigate later this weekend, but always like to have some idea of the problem/solution prior to heading into the shop.

The cv joint boot has a hole in it. If you hear a clicking noise when you turn the joint, its shot too, if not you can just get a new boot and repack the joint.

Thanks for the quick reply!

That was basically my thought as well - I looked at the rear and there is a clamp so my thought was that perhaps the clamp had come loose or something on the front.

I'll investigate further this weekend hopefully.

Yep...Definitely your CV boot has split. If you change it soon (and have no popping), you may save the expense of a new joint....Just the boot should not be too bad.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help.

I was quoted $989.17 with parts/labor. That seems pretty high, my guess is that included the CV joint as well, but haven't confirmed. I sent the pictures to another dealer as well to see what they say. Then I'll likely compare to a reputable independent before making a decision on what to do.
