Just collected my 2008MY 997.1 Turbo Cabriolet and love it just as expected.
My new baby.
I am doing some minor mods to suspension for fast road here in the UK keeping relatively close to stock. ie. stock springs / dampers / front sway bar and all drop links etc.
I have already fitted the DSC Sport Controller V1 and love its new ability. Next is to replace the rear sway bar with the 25.5 mm from a GT2 RS with new stock bushes to suit set in middle position.
The next thought was to adjust the front toe to -0.03 degrees toe out to get a sharper turn-in, as I also expect the rear sway bar to do the same to some degree.
I have seen very many posts on here, and elsewhere, and have found them extremely interesting, but I have not yet found anyone that runs with my intended set-up.
So, why am I telling you all this?
Because, although I am an old dog, I am not too dumb to ignore the experiences of others, new tricks and all that. . .
I am not going to track the car at all; so do not need anything too extreme. I know you guys will have great opinions to share and I look forward to reading them all.
GT3 front lower control arms is a great mod with your set up. It allows you to dial in more negative camber which really helps with the handling. Maybe rear toe links and locking plate from Tarret Engineering. Our cars are really sensitive to rear toe settings.
Taking same approach with my 2007tt. I have the DSC and GT2 (25.5mm) rear bar and a set of adjustable rear endlinks....love the improvement. Considering a more aggressive alignment with a slight toe out (0.00 to - 0.03) bc others have indicated that much more than that and you'll tradeoff stability and tire wear for turn-in feel. Still trying to get useful info for the best (for the street) rear toe settings.
By the way, I found the softest setting on the rear bar to be a great improvement without adding meaningful nvh....middle setting was just a little too much nvh for my taste.
Also found the US tire pressures to be overly high. Running 39 -40 cold rear, and 34 - 36 front worked best for me.
@bondjockey Thanks for your suggestions, I will take another look at the GT3 control arms front. I am going to leave the rear toe alone for now, I will see what the changes make then think from there.
@lflouie It is really nice that I have a kindred spirit out there with you
I have run a small toe out in all my 911s past just for that sharper turn in we are both seeking. I think that I will still go firstly with the middle setting on the rear sway bar; as far as nvh is concerned I am not too bothered by that for now, but it is good reference for the future. I have only had the car since Friday (now Tuesday) so sticking with standard tyre pressures to get used to them, then I will try your tip on the reduced pressures as you run them.
I really appreciate all the input that I am receiving so far, many thanks
