Where to sell a VH Aston?
Where to sell a VH Aston?
What are your thoughts on how/where to achieve the best sale price for a VH era Aston? Thoughts regarding online vs. in-person venues? Auctions in general...reserve or no, etc.? I enjoy BAT for the knowledgeable Q&A (unfortunately lots of keyboard warriors too); it appears to have good reach however auction enthusiasm waxes and wanes. I’m not aware of any direct sale methods or targeted enthusiast platforms (other than 6Speed & PistonHeads) worth pursuing.
Particulars that may effect which path to take….2014 4.7 manual roadster, one owner (me) with every single maintenance record and receipt, 55K easy miles, Quantum Silver w/Obsidian Black, a high spec car with matching OEM leather luggage set. Original clutch which I understand may require an accommodation but, as the only owner and driver, I have not seen any need to replace under my continuing ownership.
Why consider selling? Call it advance contingency life planning…..I’m in perfect health but getting up there. My adult children and spouse do not drive a manual. I have had the real pleasure of crawling under and babying my Aston for many years and developing the sense of accomplishment (and comfort in ownership) that entails. Not sure how much longer I’ll be willing and able to do that. I don’t see myself dependent on dealer service or the local independents, but that’s me. What next? I am considering a cool vintage station wagon to enjoy with my dog and haul antique furniture with.
My Vantage is without question the best car I have ever owned, and in a perfect world I would never part ways, but such is life.
Thanks

Thanks I'll check out Doug's platform....seen a few of their panel discussions. Funny thing about mileage, I'm glad to have put on 5K per year and, in retrospect, the $$$ differential on selling for doing a fraction of that is just not worth it. I understand a buyer's POV and can't argue with it, but the low running costs of a well-maintained Vantage really tilt in favor of driving enjoyment. They are a very special car, but a used car nonetheless. Perhaps mileage will be less meaningful when they are rightly recognized as analog driving classics. And with the total production of 4.7 manual roadsters numbering 507 (both LHD and RHD), those odds are pretty reasonable.
Trust me I understand, I have been lucky to have owned a number of nice cars and drive them as much as I can. One of my favorite was a 94 Supra Mk4 Turbo, I put some good miles on it and then it sky rocketed in value.
Glad you enjoyed your car and hopefully the values goes up since these cars are undervalued.

Not sure if you have any higher end consignment stores in your area, but they seem to do a fair job of selling with a cut usually around the 10% range. And you don't have to deal with any strange folks.

It's unfortunate to see these cars depreciating so much. Two Roadsters just sold for under 40k on of them with modifications went for 29k and it was an S. Both SS though. It's hard to say if these will upswing anytime soon or ever but I would tend to agree that BAT or a local exotic car consignment dealer might be your best bet. My 2008 Roadster SS has depreciated almost 40% in 4 years but I plan to keep mine until I can't get in or out of it😀. Good luck with the sale, hope you get top dollar for it.
I would definitely try BAT, I sold my manual R8 on BAT, and looked at the various options, selling on BAT direct got me about $15k-$20k more then a selling to a dealer and about $7k more then consignment route, but YMMV

Thanks all for your advice and replies....very helpful. Now, between procrastination and my natural hesitation to sell, I at least have some idea of where to start. I'll post if/when my car hits the market. In the meantime I have a downstream O2 sensor to replace (definitely won't miss dealing with emissions codes).
I sold my v8 on fb marketplace. I listed it here as well. Honestly there was more $ in it but that was in spite of getting screwed over by some of those used car groups (like "exotic cars for sale", which coincidently is where/how i saw it when i bought it). I forgot which group specifically but one of those groups wouldn't approve my post. I looked at the mods to ask and they were all "Cars For Coins" employees who had a v8 vantage, same color, of their own listed for like 15k over mine so my guess is they didn't want mine shown to devalue theirs.
If you post on BAT, you need to make sure everything is squared away or else you will get run down by the two bit commentators who love chiming in with no intention to buy.

I agree here about BAT. The "community" thinks they're experts on everything cars and you have to really know your car and respond quickly to Qs/comments. They will research everything that would have gone wrong with your MY then pose these as potential issues. If you're good technically and you know your car BAT can work.
For these reasons I would avoid BAT. Who needs some snot nose kid bashing your car? Facebook Marketplace has a very wide audience and you're in total control of the campaign.
