After taking the Aston on the tail of the dragon and putting hard miles on the car, I fell in love even more with the Aston. This was the hardest I had ever pushed the car, and it performed beyond my expectations. In some corners, I just said to myself, I hope I make it, and I did!
So I got the itch to start modding the Aston again. I love the aggressive V12 hood, and this build is not supposed to keep the car original and classy.
You never really see Astons built like the other supercars, and I wanted to do just that with mine.
So, here is a video of a full custom carbon fiber V12 hood being installed, and a how-to install a hood/take off the hood in a time-lapse video.
A couple of things to consider:
1) The hood brackets are 13mm (there are 4 of them and then the hood is free). Leave the lower hood bolt on loosely (able to hand turn) to prevent it from falling and once you have a good grip with a partner, back it out by hand and remove the hood.
2) The washer nozzles can be taken out by pulling down towards the front of the hood (with the hood open) and then pulling down. It's scary doing this, but it will come out with some force. Do this first obviously.
3) Transfer the hood latch, hood opener, and the 2 bumperettes to the new hood. The latch and opener are secured by 4 T30 bolts (2 each) and the bumperetts just twist off and twist on.
3a) The bumperettes provide the travel of the hood when closed. Not out far enough will have the hood bouncing and having it out too far will cause the hood to bulge out a bit.
3b) The hood latch can be adjusted if you have play in the new hood. This can be done by turning a 13mm flare wrench to screw the latch in more or out.
4) To feed the spray hose, use a wire hanger and fish out. Much easier than pushing it through to the driver's side as the hose is very flexible and easy to pinch and get stuck.
sweet! are you going to leave it carbon gloss or paint to match the car? did you weight them?
I've been debating whether to paint-match the hood to tungsten silver or leave it exposed. I guess for right now, ill leve it and drive it and then when I get the V8VS/V12 side skirt, i'll paint them at the same time. I did not officially weight them, however, the carbon is extremely lighter than the stock. The OEM is pretty light to begin with though.

I would leave it as it is. Why put a carbon hood on and then paint it? Weight savings? $8K to save 5 pounds?

Totally get that perspective. It doesnt look right in pictures, but in person, it looks amazing with the exposed carbon. For me, it wasnt about the weight savings, even though it is considerably lighter. The aftermarket hoods really only came in carbon, so the intent was alwasy to color match, but for now I will leave it for a season or two until its time for a change.

Is it UV safe now, or do you need to paint with clear coat? I would leave it exposed but make sure it won't yellow or discolor.
I would paint it and possibly leave an exposed carbon stripe to let everyone know.
That's a good thought. I always loved the GT12 Style hood, and I even tried to find a part number and order one, but I had no luck.

Yes, it is UV safe, but the car is in a garage most of the time. I have it ceramic coated as well. I dont have it PPFd yet because I am undecided as to what to do.
