USB Music with New Aston Infotainment
USB Music with New Aston Infotainment
Just got one of the new cars with the new infotainment system and have started playing around with everything to see how it works. Just once I'd like to get a car, start playing around with it, and think to myself that someone did a good job. But no, its always just a matter of what level of frustration is involved.
One frustration I've run into is with playing things from a USB stick. It lets me select playing by songs, artists, album, and even folder. For things like folder or Artist, there doesn't seem to be a way to select more than one. If you select a single folder it only plays what's in that folder and won't go to the next folder automatically. I'd settle for having it play everything in all folders, in order, then go back to the beginning after the end of the last one. But I see no way of doing something that simple. The best I can do is select "songs" and it will play all the songs on the stick in alphabetical order. I also see no way of having it load a play list of any sort. Anyone figure out how to do simple things like this?
This should be the same on all the new cars (Vantage, DB12, DBX, etc).

Well, still playing with it. Somehow after restarting the car it ended up in the kind of mode I'm looking for where it goes through all the folders, I think in alphabetical order, but it doesn't play the files in the folder in alphabetical order (can't figure out how it determines that order). However, I have no idea how to get it into this mode again. Also, when I restart the car, sometimes (not all the time) it doesn't continue where it left off and restarts at a "random" (no idea how it picks where to start, but starts in that same exact place every time is doesn't pick up where it left off).
There's doesn't seem to be a way to see the list its going to play or even how many files in its list. In the manual it indicates there should be a way, but it also says you should see the next track and that's not there either.
I've also run into glitches where if you shut the volume off before shutting off the are, when you restart it won't start playing until to skip to the next track (or select another source and come back).
A basic "play files from USB" shouldn't be that difficult to implement in a decent manner, amazing that they couldn't do it. Be really nice if it was documented somewhere what the expected behavior was.
Has no one else actually played around with this on any of the new cars?

There has been multiple software updates for the infotainment on the newer vehicles.
You may want to visit a dealer to get the latest version to see if it changes anything.
Goto settings and see what software version you have. If the first 3 numbers are below 913 it needs updates.

Well, the version number starts with 912. However, it does say its "up to date". Also, I just got the car last week and the dealer said it had all current updates.
Any way to know what the latest version is supposed to be?

Supposedly there may be another software update coming down the pike. We'll see.
Apparently I'm the only person that actually uses the infotainment system, everyone else just attaches their phone and uses Carplay/Auto.
