Procedure for V8V Coolant renew? (Irish07 help)
Time for my 09 Vantage for a coolant refresh. I could not find any details in the shop manual. Does the V8V have a purge? If so where should I connect vacuum? I can only find a rad drain, if this is the extent of the capability I would expect to have to drain/replace/ get up to operating temp; and repeat twice.
I have a lift, vacuum pump and fairly complete set of Aston tools (from a dealer that closed a few years ago)

When doing a 5 year service coolant is replaced, as per Aston on the VH platforms, drain the radiator and vacuum fill. System usually takes 6-9L of mixed fluid...an empty system is around 14L when dry
I also fit a fluid extractor used to suck oil out of the newer engines we have on other brands, I clamp the coolant hoses to the manifold and then fit the fluid extractor to the throttle body cooler hose to engine..I don't get more that 10L total, but the 4L remaining isn't going to do any damage..or net any advantage if I found a way to get it out.
I then vacuum fill through the coolant reservoir cap opening, make sure it can pull more than 20in, otherwise you need more air line pressure or have a leak..I can get between 25-30, then I pull the 50/50 mix fluid through, remove fluid when pressure is atmospheric, top up reservoir if needed. Run the car to operating temp, let it soak off till cool. Check level and top up if necessary.
We're a multi brand dealer..I use the Jaguar pink'ish color fluid, comes in a 5L jug not mixed, so once 50/50 I have the 10L I need. Jag part number JLM209723

Irish, Thanks. I understand all but,"I clamp the coolant hoses to the manifold and then fit the fluid extractor to the throttle body cooler hose to engine" I understand the extracting coolant from the throttle body cooler hose, but not the part of clamping coolant hose to manifold.. Sorry for being dense.

I have hose clamps, think there snapon.. I take my 2 large clamps and block the hoses. When I fit the fluid extractor, its harder to suck air from the empty radiator than it is to suck fluid from the block... Because the manifold hoses are clamps(other end of hoses goto radiator)

irish07,
I found a manual and under Engine Cooling, Drain and Refill it doesn't state that you need to suck the fluid out only to drain it from under the car and refill from the radiator cap ?? Here I put that manual in my dropbox if you want to have a look

Hehe..I have the manual, actually get all the newer versions.
The sucking coolant out is "my" preference to get the most possible out. Yes, you can do as the manual states and drain from the radiator....I'll be honest, I'm not perfect.. Monday morning..LOL that car is getting the workshop manual procedure!
It's not going to do a thing in the damage department, unless there was an issue with contamination from something like oil in the coolant..then you want to flush every little ounce out. But for a general service, my procedure is really overkill..but it's sometimes who I am, over the top!

Maybe we can meet sometime this summer in or around Montreal, it would be nice to put a face on a expert.

Couldn't agree with this more... I really hope dealerships see the value of openness and cooperation vs hoarding info.

I just bought a 2009 AM V8V this winter and your knowledge base on this forum is much appreciated and one of the main reason as to why I bought one and believe I can do most of my own maintenance. Sorry if I put you on the spot, it wasn't my intention as I was going to do the service myself but after reading your post I wasn't sure I could... If you say that I can follows the manual I have is acceptable then I will, thanks.

i just did a drain , only from the drain plug and only about 6 liters came out. i put the new antifreeze in and some distilled water. the old stuff looked pretty good. its at least 9-10 years old.. might have been original, as i bought this 2006 aston when it had 20,000miles 10 years ago, but it was serviced by the dealer, so they might have changed it due to age. again, refilled with the dealers replacement which is the AC delco stuff now...... hope that works

[quote=handyman2009;4900085]Do you have a picture and/or more information about that AC Delco antifreeze that the dealer use? Thanks[/quote
here you go.... pretty standard stuff.and trust me this is a VERY high end dealer ..... in the heart of the silicon valley.... if they could sell something more expensive, (or use) they would AcDelco Dexcool Concentrate Extended Life Antifreeze Coolant 10-101 OEM. - Walmart.com
