Need key in ignition to start car?

How come the Vantage doesnt let you leave the key in your pocket and just senses the key, and start with the push of the button? Why do you have to engage the key and turn the key in ignition? Or is this changed in 2009?

Not sure, but it is kind of silly. Doesn't really bother me though. I love the car too much!

Very good question! I was wondering this myself just today. Great minds must think alike.

My friend's 2006 Prius let him keep the key in his pocket to get in the car and to start the car for goodness sake.

I have the 08 Vantage and you have to insert key, turn, and press ignition.
A little troublesome for a premium car.

Alot of other companies have made it keyless with various key shapes.
A friend's RX-8 is credit card shaped, and its keyless entry as well as keyless ignition (there is a faux key and you just turn that **** in the car)

On the 09, you insert the key into the button and press down into the push button to start. No turning needed.

What about auto lock/auto unlock with the door handles? OR do you need to physical press the key fob?

The key design is terrible. Anyone have a solution to get rid of the key other than trading it in for an 09 or up? Another issue with the key is that it protrudes too close to the dash. I am thinking of installing a remote start if that will eliminate the need for a key. A second cheaper option is to file the key end down to get more clearance from the dash, always leave the key in the ignition and only carry the remote fob.

I’ve owned the vehicle for less than a week and find many peculiar things about this car. Some good and some bad. This car is like a hott babe, you have to overlook things or tweak it because it’s too sexy to let go!

Where's all the peeps on this forum? I used to a much larger audiance.

I think it is safe to say the British are a little slow to grasp technology. I miss a lot of the gadgets on my Corvette but will not look back. I love my V8V.

Duh, I just need to adjust the steering wheel back a little to get more clearance from the dash.

This car definitely has its oddities. Some things are very sturdy while others are very cheap. For example, the oil dipstick is the highest quality of any car I've owned but the directional stalk is the cheapest I've ever owned. It feels like it's made out of a McDonald's straw. Moreover, the interior scratches VERY easily and I am a FANATIC about pampering my cars. I could keep the key in my pocket with my Z06 and use the push button start. My Tundra had an auto crank feature where you would simply flick the ignition key and the engine started without having to hold it in the crank position. With the Vantage, not only do you have to struggle to insert the key properly due to its odd shape and close proximity to the dashboard but you then have to hold down the dashboard start button until it starts. Not complaining, just mentioning it's quirkiness. I wonder if applying Leatherique would help reduce interior scuffing as this dry Connolly leather shows every little scuff mark no matter how gentle I am.

I miss my BMW and C6 push button start. I hate the extra step and carrying additional items in my pocket.
