CD Changer "Deck Error"
CD Changer "Deck Error"
Just got my car back from the shop with a new fender, repaired GPS door (was stuck), and yet another fresh O2 sensor. Car's in good shape right?
Well on my way towards the office I tried to play a CD, and got the Deck Error message.
I have 2 CDs in changer position 5 and 6, and it only shows the disc in 5. Eject button does nothing.
Now since most of the features on this car are "Press X for Y seconds to reset", anyone have a similar experience and can help me out? Dealership is telling me once you see the error, it's done. However I'm skeptical, as the device just seems stuck, not dead.

Consider this a public service announcement for my fellow AMV8 owners with 6 CD changers.
For those who are getting work done on their car, and utilize their CD changer.
REMOVE ALL CDs prior to disconnecting the battery.
I think because there are few AM's on the road, and even fewer ever having bodywork done, that people are unfamiliar with this problem. This seems to be all over the Volvo sites, people getting their car back from the shop, and all their CDs are stuck in the changer.
The only solution it seems is a new CD changer, a grand down the drain.
Take a moment to pop out all the CDs, it'll save you a good amount of money and headache.

yea I guess it's about time. 30K miles coming up too, expenses stacking up with this car. Tempted by QS exhaust too after hearing it at the dealership last weekend.
Hopefully after a good run to Captree this Sunday, all this stress will all feel worth it.

wow
thanks for the heads up. I was so close to disconnecting the battery an hour ago to remove a really bad K40 installation
fortunately a good drink called my name and I got lazy!
I think I will let the dealer have at it instead

even if you're doing it at the dealer, I'd pop the CDs out first too.
my car was getting some work done at the dealership in addition to the bodywork. Luckily FM's and talk radio is pretty interesting in NYC, dunno what I'd listen to when I drive out of town. (I guess I could drive 4th gear on the highway and listen to that)
