Increase Aston interior package (space)
Increase Aston interior package (space)
An unscientific survey of current production Astons reveals a clumsy lump of medium density foam an inch thick under the carpets forward of the buckets. I removed both intruding pieces. NVH fix, effort to reduce heat intrusion, probably, but it looks like an afterthought. I removed both intruding pieces. First I made paper patterns of the floor areas. Objective is to fill the horizontal surfaces more completely, you can even go up the toe kick, from tunnel to rocker panel inner. Then reproduced on thin auto luggage compartment roll goods(had some left over from a Mustang project). Finally fit them to the floor and rolled the carpet sections back over them. My AM dealer mechanic says he made similar "refinements" to several VH design Astons. I can't discern either an NVH or heat intrusion change, but it looks better, I have a bit more space and know a lot more about my car.

Do you have any pics?
Sorry, no pics, but Aston made this mod easy
AM uses velcro tape, reusable daubs of adhesive and gravity to retain their carpet and various foams. Use them again. Peel back center carpet sections, L&R. Lay them back on bucket squabs. Remove intruding foam lumps. Aston interlocks drivers side lump, I cut it off at the new lower level. You could stop here...just stretch and flatten the two carpet setctions and you are done, or you could get fancy. Use stiff paper or cardboard to make patterns. Objective is maximum coverage of each side with one piece of thin, light weight, dense, semi stiff(but bendible) automotive roll goods. I used luggage compartment material used on inexpensive cars. After cutting to the pattern shapes I fit the two pieces to the floor and restuck the carpet sections...easy!
Both improvements will be achieved
If you have a VH Aston you will note raised carpet areas immediatly forward of the bucket seats. By removing the two pieces of under carpet foam that create these lumps you can improve the interior appearance and have more space for your feet and legs, ingress and egress, etc. If concerned with potentially increased heat or noise you can go further, applying an automotive material under the OE carpet, filling the 2 horizontal surfaces entirely. One caution, do not interfere with pedal functions. If a thin, dense roll good is used you will probably achieve better than original Aston heat and noise intrusion performance due to the increased horizontal coverage as well as the appearance and space benefits.
