I love my SS...didn't test drive a manual though. I like the freedom to shift/drive with one hand or not shift at all if I'm trying to hold the phone while driving. I also have a fear of rolling backwards or killing the engine when I try to take off.

As far as the driving experience, I find that the SS is very engaging as you feel the clutch and shifting. It's best to let your foot off the gas some just before you shift. So, I think it would be difficult for somebody to say the car is dumbed down as a SS.
When I test drove an 09 Vantage, I was very concerned about the SS shifting. It is as you say, you really do need to let off the gas when shifting gears or its extremly jerky and nearly outright violent at WOT. What really bothered me was how giving it 5% gas at idle would not make the car move. It felt me me that you couldn't just floor it from standstill without roasting the transmission and clutch. BUT, I think its just a different system you need to get used to, and even if not, a compromise I would make for such a beautiful car.

As for my 996tt's tiptronic shifting, I'm overall very pleased with it. It is very smooth and reasonably quick. I don't see how it could be possibly slower than the vantage's SS. I would love to try PDK someday.

Also, think about how long you plan on keeping the car. The price of the 07s seems to be bottoming out at around 70K (how much lower can it get?), so if you're looking to drive the 07 for only a year, you'll lose a lot less than an 09, which will probably be in the low 80s this time next year.

If you plan on keeping the car for a while, I suggest going with an 09. The upgrades offered in an 09 are well worth the extra money IMO. As for reversing in an SS AMV8, I never had any issues whatsoever. I just used the parking sensors to gauge distance and the car "crawled" well.

Go with the 09

I've owned both and the 09 is better in the long run IMHO. I loved the 07 it is an awesome car but the torque of the 09 is the difference I fell up and down the tach. Who knows, what about 'mods' for the 09. 5 Speed manual is the best in the cars techs have told me. Some auto review mags concur..one said twice "...great car but BUY the manual.." Resale on auto vs. manual is a toss up. Many don't like to shift or know how (really) and a purist is going to have a harder time finding a manual in the color he wants. So it really comes down to what you like and are happy with.

I'm about this close to closing the deal on a 08 Vantage, SS, fully-loaded, piano black facia trim, 4500 miles, Tungsten/Obsidian, for $89K and includes the 2-year extended warranty and mandatory multi-point inspection. I had a friend view it, took it out for a spin, and he said it was absolutely flawless and looked and felt like a brand new car. Without the extended warranty, it's $85k.

I've tried to find a good 07, but it's been really tough finding one that fits my criteria. Doesn't help that I'm very OCD when it comes to cars. I know that an 09 is just $10k more, but I could really use that to make some upgrades to my house or have as a reserve should something happen to the car or I want to do any mods.

Thoughts?!

(Btw this process is killing me. Did all of you go insane as well?)

I stand corrected, it's $89,500 with 1-year and $92,000 with 2-year. I think I'd rather get it w/o the warranty and try getting a better deal elsewhere.

Allen I think that price is too high for an 08. I've been watching these cars for months now and you should be able to get an 08 for the low 80's.

Yeah, the process sucks. It took me four months to find the 09 I wanted, and after four months of ownership, it took me two months to sell it, not to mention taking a huge hit to my pocket book...LOL! IMO, you'd be getting ripped off at 85K for a 08. Just wait a bit. 09s will drop down to that price. 09s and up are definitely worth it.

i agree with the other guys. I think that is a lot of money for an 08. At those numbers you are very close to 09 prices and their warranty, not to mention the extra HP and dash. It took me a long time before I found the car I ended up buying but I'm glad I waited. Good luck.

Allen I just bought an 09 I had been negotiating back n forth on for a month. It was a 2009 loaded sport package that I got for around 95k and I added an extra year of warranty and the n400 sills for another 5k. Should be delivered in about two weeks after the sills are installed!

Just found this forum and this thread.....very informative....learned a lot
thanks.
Im currently torn between an 05-07 AM DB9 or a 06-09 AM Vantage.
Just doing my homework and preparing myself for the culture shock
of owning my first Exotic. Currently have a 08 Shelby GT500 and a 07
C230..thinking about selling both of them to buy an AM.
