2009 Aston Martin DBS, 20,000 mile update

Hi guys,

Time for another update. I reported on my 2006 V8 Vantage experience in a previous post (https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...le-update.html) and I thought I would let you all know how things are going with the DBS.

I've had the car for almost a year now and I use it as a daily driver (DD). It had around 12,000 miles on it when I picked it up.

Specifications

• 2009 Aston Martin DBS
• Casino Royale exterior, black interior
• Premium Sound System
• Manual transmission
• Nav system
• Integrated phone/bluetooth
• Clear bra (front area and lower sills)
• Medium window tint
• Annual service: Approximately $1,600 per visit
• Extended Warranty: Just paid about $6,500 (plus tax) for 2 years (starting next month)

Here are the highlights regarding maintenance and other items I've experienced:

Major

  • None

Minor

  • Left rear bumper loose: Bolt was loose (warranty - corrected)
  • Driver window module: Only partially went up to seal, at times (warranty - corrected)
  • Passenger door lock: Would not open from outside when unlocked from inside (warranty - corrected)
  • Flat tire: Highway screw (AM roadside assistance tow to Orlando and back: free - 1 P Zero tire: $600)

Annoying

  • Trunk rattle: Loose snaps (warranty - corrected)
  • Dash rattle: Tire pressure module under glove box loose (warranty - corrected)
  • Brake squeal: Performed pad burnish (warranty - better but still squealed at rolling stops)
  • Brake squeal: Buffed pads to remove glaze and performed pad burnish (warranty - almost quiet now)
  • Horizontal trunk chrome trim: Not completely flush on one end (warranty - corrected)
  • Passenger window chrome trim: Not completely aligned (warranty - corrected)
  • Craked right door mirror mounting cover: Barely noticeable (warranty - corrected)
  • Driver side wind noise at speed: Replaced rear quarter glass (warranty - better but still some noise)
  • Driver side wind noise at speed: Ordered wind-cheater part from UK (warranty - arrived...to be installed on my next visit)
  • iPod integration: Plays both iPod and iPhone but cable only charges iPods

Conclusion

I won't even mention the power since it's not something you get to use around town very much...but, wow!!! Also, the car is surprisingly comfortable for long trips and, since it's a DD for me, it is certainly comfortable around town. After owning cars from Mustangs to BMWs to Porsches, I can safely say that this is the best car I've ever owned.

Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to rate this car a 10. Now, before you say "yeah, right", here's how I know:

  • I smile like an idiot when I walk by it in the garage
  • I always turn around to look it after parking it
  • I haven't see another one like it on the road (except near a dealership)
  • The engine note is the sexiest thing I've ever heard (from a non-human) :)
  • I can't wait to wash it on the weekend (even though it's rarely dirty)
  • It handles like a dream (almost as good as my previous 911)
  • It looks amazing! Confirmed by these faces as you drive by ->
  • The c0ckpit looks and feels like a spaceship, to me
  • I can't imagine ever getting rid of it except to get a newer model

Hope this helps.

Never thought about it, but that is a pretty good gauge. I do the same with my Vantage.

You can buy a small adapter from companies like Scoche for about $15US that looks like a small dock connector with a male and female side. It will allow you to charge your iPhone.

BTW what's a "wind cheater"?

I believe it is part of the side-view mirror arm or the base that holds that (attached to the top of the door).

Mine is also a daily driver. The best part of the week for me is the 125 mile commute home on Thursday evening; 2nd best is the 125 mile commute to work early Monday- PRICELESS.

I remember getting my car serviced and it taking about a week because it needed a new amplifier. When I went to pick it up I remember staring at a beautiful freshly detailed gray Vantage in the lot and then realized it was my car. I never get tired of looking at these things.

I searched the Scoche web-site but can't seem to find it. Do you have a link or a part number. And I understand it just plugs between the Aston Adapter and my IPhone--is that right?
Thanks

I think this is the part he was referring to (http://store.apple.com/us/product/TS696LL/A?afid=p210|frgl&cid=AOS-US-SHOP-Froogle). Going to order it shortly...
