My new 2012 Vantage S - paint correction pics
Do you seriously think they leave the AM factory looking like that? Did you ever see the cars under the lights in final inspection? It's probably all the result of dealer prep at the hands of some ill-trained garage help. I don't know why anyone would accept the car from the dealer in the first place. If I saw that on a $200K car, I'd turn around and wouldn't accept the car until corrected by the dealer. I certainly wouldn't expect to pay a 3rd party on my nickel to correct the paint.
I doubt the dealer wants to spend the time or effort required to cause this sort of clearcoat damage. Most probably just want to clean the car and slap on a quick coat of wax, if anything.
looks awesome now. don't EVER take such an amazing car as that for granted guys...
state of the before pics was pretty **** poor... (including the sanding marks under the vinyls... which presumably came all the way from UK??)

SO shiny!!! You must feel bad driving it around in the street after it's so clean, I know after I clean my car I go on the highway and it's enough for one little part to have construction and my car is full of dust again...
Oh well. Beautiful car!

Just to clarify - many of those marks are wet sand marks. In no way could they have been caused by a dealer prepping the car for delivery. If you look on amoc.org you will find that many cars come this way from the factory.
It cannot be seen without bright lights. What it does to the finish, though, is prevent the true color, metal flake and depth from coming through.
The car was done by Nick at A Buff and Beyond Detailing in Millstone, NJ. The car is actually there again now. Being that the dealer had to test drive the car (in the rain) when trying to diagnose the transmission problem it was filthy. I told the dealer not to wash the car - Nick will be giving it a quick bath tomorrow.

Congrats, car looks great! Good call on the detailing!
It's actually quite common to see Aston's with poor finishes - I rejected two cars from my dealers inventory, due to how poorly they where painted. Some colours is was so obvious it had touch ups/resprays on body panels from the factory.
Ended up spec'ing my own car (8 months later) when the car arrived, had it under bright lights . . . minutes later my detailer was on his way to wet sand the car before I took delivery. Salesmen/staff thought I was insane, but they couldn't argue with the results & ending up recommending my detailer to some many Aston owners.
My second Aston, came in better shape, but still not acceptable (especially for an Aston) Sometimes when I watch the National Geographic Factory specials, I actually start to believe what they say about quality control . . .
Even all the car meets I attend, it's amazing how the Camry just parked to the side has a better finish from the factory compared to many of the exotics. As others have mentioned, it important to keep the car swirl free by carefully washing the car (two bucket method etc -) Search the detailing forums for more info.
This is not exactly the first example we have seen of poorly prepared paint coming out of Gaydon. I know they pride themselves as having such a great paint system. I also know they read/lurk the online forums. I wonder what they think when this kind of stuff gets posted. I would hope that they would shakedown the paint department and tell them to get their act together.
Apparently, the department that works on gearboxes also needs attention.
