Shifting problem with 2010 AMV8 Sportshift
2009 with SS improvements. I thought it was still pretty bad but cant really complain now. Still made a big difference.
My V8V Roadster has 24k and been "babied". I do a relearn every time I take out for a run. Lately 1st thing when everything is cold the car "shutters" one time. Rest of day nothing.Think clutch is going or just cold? Thanks Frank
Certainly an old thread, though interestingly my 2010 is starting to suffer the same issue. Car has a little over 13K miles and I'm always gentle starting off from a stop. The delay/issue always seems to be between 1st and 2nd gear. the first time it happened revs around 5K in 1st and it didn't shift into 2nd until the revs were closer to 3K. After a couple months it now seems to be happening around 4K rpm. Twice now rather than going into 2nd after a long delay a message was displayed that the gear is not available. After hitting the up shift a few times it goes into a higher gear then seems to work normally again. The last couple times driving it seems to be working OK, though definitely has me a bit paranoid.
I dont believe my V8 Vantage has the latest software mapping available from AM in regards to the sportshift. Every time I start the car, I do the clutch learn procedure but dont see the red glow in the key ring, something that should be occurring. Do I just schedule an appt? Is it free of charge?

Hi...if you have the new software your fob area will dull in brightness when it does the clutch learn. This was done as many people could not hear the sound.
Also...I always park my car in first gear. When the clutch learn is done it puts the car in N. I use paddle shifters mostly...only d in Heavy stop and go traffic.
Baby your wife not an Aston...lol I drive hard and over 35000 miles on original clutch...
Until ASM is warmed up shifting is limited by trans ECU...after warm then shifts easy. I try Never to downshift into first...the car does it better.
Another trick I do is if the car has sat for a couple of weeks....I do the clutch relearn 3 times....it seems to help in slower speed.. if the car sits just a week...just normal clutch learn.
when in doubt...check your records guys...transaxle fuild change is needed every 4-5 years...our clutches are not controlled with brake fuild like the manuals...check the bottle under the car...or have your dealer change and fill.
Safe driving....

Rich did sell. Not sure if listed since his move to Florida.
transaxle oil is Castrol BTO 270a
hard to buy except from dealers...AM bits will not ship to USA
Clutch control fuild is Pentosin CHF - 11s
It can be bought at Auto zone etc...
Here there are threats not to touch ASM fuild...contact Mike at Bradford Rose our sponsor here and he claims you can do yourself. He stated on a threat on Piston heads...
Good luck...Duke

Hey..age is just a number. But yes...have a good independent you trust or a dealer perform. But call around so a dealer does not over charge you.
Oh...in fact on Piston heads threat Rich was corrected by Mike of Bradford Rose when he stated do not change fuild on ASM...
I can not remember exact details but relates to using paddle shifters to drain the clutch...
But safer to have dealer do...I have a son that helps me alot....we are putting rotors and brakes soon.
God bless you man and safe driving...enjoy yourself

I don't know if it's just how SS1/Sportshift 1 drives or a sign that Clutch is going. but I've had the car long enough now (4 months daily driving) and driven it hard enough now to know how it behaves consistently. basically anything at 6500RPM or above, there often (although not always) is a half second longer delay than usual when upshifting (you feel the engagement delay after you put the throttle down and the gear thrusts you forward). but at 6000 rpm or below, it's always consistently fast like 3/4 of a second or so. so the difference is like 3/4 second vs 1 or 1.5 second. this is with foot lifting off the throttle shift.
with hyper shift (foot on throttle all the way), it hyper shifts well all the way up to 6K rpm, after that it gets slower at up to 6500RPM, and then at 7000 RPM or higher it simply just doesn't work anymore at full-throttle, it'll just bounce up and down the Rev limiter until you let off the throttle.
I have several theories about this. based on a lot of reading, SS2 does not require uplift so doesn't have this issue when you full-throttle shift because SS2 will always cut the throttle when you upshift. SS1 will always require a throttle lift.
Mike from Bamford Rose also mentioned in one particular thread that the SS1 computer doesn't like it when you shift at very high RPM, I think he called it:
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=&t=1633514
if you're having problems where when upshifting and it takes 2~4 seconds or the computer says gear not available, that's not the same thing. that's not what I am talking about. I am talking about this slight delay where it almost feels like the computer sometimes is just stupid.
I've basically come to the conclusion that this 1. either is just how SS1 drives, or 2. Clutch is on its way out. although doing several low speed high gear throttle stomps and not experiencing any clutch slip.
it's hard enough finding opinions consider most people don't even take their car regularly up to 7K rpm. but I on the other hand like to use most of the rpm spectrum when it's safe to do so.
anyone feel free to chime in.

"In the hands of a pro in GT4 the manual is quicker on account the inevitable ASM miss shift ruining a lap time and often not being able to ram it in the gear wanted because of software limiting 'ramming into gear' at too high rpm like can be done in manual. In hands of non pro the ASM will be quicker because the driver doesn't have to think about gear changing and can focus on other race craft "

You will not get a SS clutch to slip like a regular setup. The "stupid" computer as you say will just give it up and refuse to move the vehicle in the first place. Delayed shifts are the act of not allowing clutch slip at high RPM due to a worn clutch. You need one.
