Potential Owner Needs Advice - New to Forum

Hi all,

Ive been on this forum a while now reading reviews and thoughts becuase im in the market for a V8V. A dealer has a 2008 N400 Nurinburg edition near where I live and it has just about everything i was looking for in a V8V, N420 sills, clear taillights, and all the options, plus as a bonus it has the exclusivity of being one of only 240 editions made. The car is 86K with 22K miles...i wanted to know what precautions and steps I should take before buying the car... I wanted to know what you guys feel should be a good price to negotiate for and what kind of maintenance to expect and the cost associated. And I understand you have to pay to play but, i still dont want any surprises like a 10K sportshift clutch replacement. Also the car has a clean carfax with a buyback guarantee...Other notables, the car is lighting silver and automatic. Thanks in advance and from the many threads i have read you guys have beautiful cars. And here are some pics....

I don't know what the premium is for the N400 edition, but last time I checked a regular 4.3 with normal mileage (15-25k) sells for around $65-$75k. Personally, I wouldn't pay up too much for the special edition as it's not all that different that the standard 4.3 in spite of the lower production number.

Nice car and lightning silver is a beautiful color, but the price seems too high. Also, don't be fooled by the "1 of only 240 editions made" thing; in relative terms, all Vantages are fairly rare as is normal for a mostly hand built car. Just because it has some unique stitching on the center console (which looks a bit tacky IMO) doesn't make it worth a lot more.

My guess is that the price is about $10K too high. I'd be curious to see what others think.

Great looking car. Lightning silver is beautiful. Some Sportshift owners have reported clutch issues at about that mileage -- it's not an automatic.

Agree with Karl, its about $10k too high....22k miles isnt that low for these cars either...

Also the clutch replacement runs about $5k, and has been reported at anywhere from 15k - 30k and even 40k miles...

Thanks for the advice, it looks like at that price I should hold out for maybe an 09 and go for a 4.7 liter...or try to negotiate the price down...but do you think it has too many miles for an exotic because i plan on driving this car daily (that's why that guy in Britain hand made most of it right ) Thanks once again for your input... Chirag I see your in NJ as am I, do you use your V8V as a daily and where do you service, take your car in for maintenance?

I'm also in NJ (central, near exit 100) and think the car is priced a bit high. I have a Vantage S and I could easily use it as a daily driver without complaint. My dealer is Kerbeck in Palmyra and they have been very helpful in addressing the issues I've had with my car.

viper168981:
I drive my 07 Aston about 7K miles pr year (I purchased it for $75K exactly 2 years ago). My car now has 16K miles on the odometer. In my experiences, V8 Vantages like to be driven frequently. I like the car Manhattan Motor Cars has for sale... albeit at more reasonable price. Have you made an offer yet? Perhaps you should offer them $76K? Perhaps they would sell it for $79K. Regardless, good luck.
BTW, I'm from Jersey... 15 miles west of Manhattan.

I'm starting to think that New Jersey is getting a bit crowded with Astons.

The N400 was the first V8V to have those sills, and more importantly IMO, the Sports Pack. Also, of course, it has the 400 hp version of the 4.3 engine, as well as a few other details such as the "Micro Spin" engine-turned trim on the center console. I think it's worth a premium over a standard '08 4.3, but it's hard to say how much. I agree that 22K is normal rather than low mileage.

That said, at around that price, you can probably look at a 4.7, and the difference in how the cars feel is significant.

My experience with Aston salesmen in LA (so YMMV) is that you can haggle a lot. Good luck and let us know what you do.

I agree, for that price I'd be looking for a 4.7. This would be a fine piece though, I just wouldn't pay in the $80s for it.

Just trying to beautify the garden state one Vantage at a time. It's funny though Kerbeck is the only dealer in NJ... Philly metro. Might as well be in Chicago. No franchised dealers in NYC.

FWIW, AM Long Island isn't far from NYC, and I've been very happy with them.
