..And to add to the "lay person" confusion, there is the

V8S
N420
and now the SP10

B'man, I'll take a stab at a quick summary of the differences:
You said you get the Vantage line, and the DB line is not so different.

Up to 2012 MY
DB9, base GT V12 (like the V8V is the base V8)
Virage, sweetened version of the DB9, little more power, nicer trim
DBS, "S" version, lots more power, unique trim, sport suspension

2013 MY and beyond
DB9, moved up in power and trim, basically took over the Virage
Vanquish, entirely superior, new platform. Lighter and more powerful than all 2012 cars (exluding limited editions). Totally new, different interior. No mistaking it for any other AM.

For the Vantage variants you asked about: the N420 and the SP10 are just trim packages (though I think the N had some suspension mod?)

The other guys keep referring to some other car but I'm quite confident that no such thing exists.

I recall a time not so very long ago that Porsche barely made more than one style. Early to mid 90s they were selling barely any cars in the US and not many more world wide. It was a leadership decision to grow the brand rather than die on principle.

I think I see the same kind of vision at AM. I hope they can stick around and stay unique.

The Porsche management and development style seem to be followed here and i hope they learn from porsche but not follow them.

Its seem to be pretty good lineup

Vantage with all its versions
DB9 with all its versions
Vanquish
Rapide.

Not including the custom ones

For some, the neighbor's twins may resemble one another, but a parent notices the difference.

It is all about what people pay attention to.

The author displayed a large amount of ignorance about cars in general. While I don't disagree with the premise, I disagree that they are all the same car.

Maybe I'm the car nerd he describes.

Maybe that is why I don't criticize Aston Martin about having a few models (in a couple trim levels). I see the 911 having a lot larger deviation of model specs (from the base C2 to the GT2RS - as referenced in that fake photo with 30 trim levels).

Nearly there
The Virage was based on the post MY12 DB9 not pre MY12 it is different to the mk1 DB9/DBS
Vanquish is not a new platform it is the same VH platform as the new DB9 but reskinned with a lot of CF, new interior and a tweaked V12 (IMO it replaces the DBS)
N420 is an optioned up 4.7 with a few minor cosmetic differences, nothing that could not be selected on a std car, it WAS NOT numbered unlike the N400
SP10 is an EU only mainland manual S
Rapide is based on a DB9 VH structure and is now built at Gaydon on the same line.

We have an ALL THINGS POLITICAL subforum for a reason - political debates should be posted there...not in the general car forums.

What are you mods referring to? I see no politics in any posts.
