DB7 mystery rattle
 

I've got a 2003 Volante that has a strange metalic rattle that comes from under the car on certain low speed bumps. It doesn't happen on all bumps - just selected bumps. Depending on the bump it sounds like it comes from one of multiple locations and my be tied to the wheels/ suspension. I looked underneath and didn't see anything obvious. All the heat Shields seem secure. I did see one metal brake line that was not fastened with the others and in fact crossed the others. I put some rubber hose around it with no result. Anyone have any ideas?

I bet you it goes away when you brake or apply the brakes at the time your hearing this metal noise ...and it sounds like you damn fender is loose..right?? yah my first one sent me on the hunt for hours...lol now known common on DB7 and Vanquish

Its a 2-piece brake disc, there are spring clips that secure the 2-pieces together, the clips come loose(no danager), and you get a noise concern..

The fix is to replace all the clips/bolts/spacers/springs that secure all the discs together..or replace all the discs if there near finished and make sure the new discs have the updated spring (which they shoud have already from the parts factory)

Interesting tip, Thanks! Is this the anti-rattle spring on the caliper or do you need to somehow remove/rebuild the rotor disk?

it's not the caliper..these springs are in the backside middle section of the actual brake disc..they are anti rattle springs, but for the discs..not the caliper pad ones

Does anyone have a reference to a service drawing for these brake springs? I've got the am calipers and vented disc but don't see a spring or clip in the back of the rotor. Thx

DB7 does not have springs on the rotors. Brembo brakes, The Vanquish had the springs for the AP Racing "floating" rotors. Have you checked the front shock isolators to the body mountings?

It's a 2003 with means it's a V12...the V12 DB7 has the Brembo 2 piece rotors..

Suspension noise
 

I've checked the shock, spring and control arms... All look like new, but the sound sure seems to be related to the suspension. Only a problem on Rough roads, whenever there is a sharp drop by the wheel and a quick recovery. Then there is a metallic crack/rattle.m very annoying.

Here's an easy test I do when I have a complaint like such with the 2-piece discs are I've simulated the noise on teh road...take a front wheel of to to the loudest corner you usually hear the noise. Bang on the face of the disc with your hand(like checking for play)....can you simulate the concern you are hearing over bumps by hiting the face of the disc with your hand?

2003 DB 7 does not have 2pc front brake rotors!

Sry..when I replied, I had GT with 2-piece near me..I had also looked fast at the parts manual and saw the 2-piece rotor image..now that I look again..yes there are 1-piece rotors..but there are 2-piece depending on Vantage model+option

No worries mate, I just was confused I had never saw a late model V12 with the 2pc.
