Third Aston's a charm? (owner's ramble)
8 Attachment(s)
Ok, there needs to be a place for people like me. A lil over a year after my V8VS, which was a few months over my first V8V, I'm already thinking about a V12V. My end goal would be trying to get a Carbon Black for $150k. I think it's somewhat realistic, but would still be a good deal for a mint condition find OTD.
I have two major concerns with me contemplating this upgrade. The first, is my V8VS. An 11' V8VS with 5k-miles in a pretty abnormal color (not a bad thing) with all my mods compared to the others in the market gives me a idea of approximately $115k. Seems like the market for V8VS is all over the place with 11's and 12's and mileage, but my color, wheels and overall setup could hopefully separate from the rest and justify cost. Thoughts? More importantly, will my third Aston be enough? I've always wanted an Aston. Check; did that a few years back. Then I wanted to mod it but found everything I wanted in a V8VS. Done; and done. I'm sure you've all seen the pictures. But last... a V12. The holy grail and entry into the true supercar realm (well in my opinion). I remember thinking there was no way I could get a new V8VS years ago, but it happened. And now with prices dropping for the V12V, it's actually within my reach. But will it be enough? With other cars in the market around this price point of $150k, P-cars, Superleggara's, R8 V10's, F430's, etc... I really would want to know that a V12V will be everything and the final car I'll get, well.. something that would last me at least 5-years... :p Will the V12V continue to be something special, or will the realities of depreciation outweigh the fact I'm in a good financial position with my V8VS... Sorry for rambling, but I'll make up for it with pics from a recent photoshoot. Maybe I need to just go for a drive, hit the sport button, hear the exhaust and watch the road blur behind me. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ine=1365906553 https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ine=1365906553 https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ine=1365906553 https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ine=1365906553 |
I asked the same question as you, two years ago.
Search you the beauty of the V12, the V12 power or the V12 engine? If this is the beauty does not change, your V8 is perfect! If this is the power, looks with Bamford Rose, you can have two fabulous power levels (484 hp or more than 550 hp) with a car lighter than V12. If it is the engine, sell yours and buy a V12! Just my opinion :p |
I went through the same thing. I was going to get a V12V and instead am getting a 430 Scuderia in the next 2-3 weeks :)

I had an AMV8, sold it for a V12 Vantage. They are very different cars. I loved both, but I really really love the V12.
It's not just the engine or the power. The car has a different feel, more alive, more animal at times, its far more eager and less relaxing. It's not about times etc, its about how it feels to drive. I just sold my R8 V10, but I kept the V12 Vantage. |
Get a V12 hood and call it a day. your car is perfect

My advice is stop worrying about what car is "best" or "everything" and stick with what is the most enjoyable to live with in real life. |

Thanks for all the feedback. In thinking about it more last night and watching tons of Aston videos, my V8VS should be more than enough. The only thing really driving myself towards a V12V is the engine, but the reality is I haven't maximized the usage and true potential "feel" of my car in the short time of ownership. Guess it's time to start looking at performance and exhaust mods...! |

As for modding, it seems that most who heavily mod their cars do so because they are dissatisfied with it. Although the mods appease them for a while, they often end up selling soon thereafter. Before spending a ton on mods, I would think about upgrading to a car that provides what you want in stock form. At one point I considered supercharging my 4.3L V8V but ended up going with the V12V instead. So glad I went that route. |
A V12 is always special. That's why they are used in all of the exotics. No matter what you do to the V8 performance wise, it still won't be the special motor that is a V12. If Aston only had V8s in their stable, I wouldn't have one because engine configuration is as important to me as power.

I hankered after a V12 roadster, bought the S after being told they wouldn't make the V12VR. Having driven one now I'm glad I stuck with the S and went the BR route. The S is a well balanced drivers car. The V12 is a very different animal.
I guess this is a totally pointless to most you guys as you don't get the V12VR or much of the BR kit. Elude you need to work out what it is you hanker after in the car outside of the brand. The work out which brand/model gets close to your "needs" |

The real question is how much you are willing to lose on your S. If you want to sell soon it may only bring in the $100 range. If you don't mind the loss then you can certainly get into a V12 for $150. I love my V12 and would not go back to a V8 so its not a question of which is the more powerful and involving car. The V12 wins. Its more how much of a hit you are willing to take. Also, is there anything else that grabs your attention? If there is you need to go drive it to be sure of what you want before you sell the S. As mentioned there are quite a few used exotics in the $150 range. Drive everything before making a decision.

Keep your S, it's probably one of the best looking astons out there. It's modded very nicely and your going to loose your shirt when selling it. Plus performance wise the S is similar to the v12v, within reasonable measure, mod it and you have the power you are looking for besting the v12, a la bamford rose or supercharger on your S.
You are a modding enthusiast, enjoying a custom look, your own style or expression thru your mods... V12v will not make you happy, and other supercars/exotics may not either...so long as you have the urge to mod. This is why your S is perfect, it's a modding project that reflects you, ultimately that's what seems to matter most to you and you are on your way to having one of the very best unique and really nicely modded v8vs! Keep the project and evolution going :) |
sunir, that is exactly what I needed to hear and reinforce myself. Keeping the S
|
You need to go test drive the V12V, it is a very different car. If you like how it drives, then get it. There isn't that much difference from the outside but the engine character and tuning are very different.
