Battery / Start issues on DBS..
Battery / Start issues on DBS..
I'm wondering if any other owners have come across this scenario and whether there is a 'reset' procedure I can perform outside having the vehicle towed tothe dealer.
I have a 2010 DBS Volante (Manual Carbon Edition)... Coming back from a 6week trip, I went to start the car and the battery was flat (somehow the charger became disconnected at the outlet). While charging and inspecting the battery, I noted the battery had a shorted cell, so I replaced it. However, the car fails to respond to the ECU. The voltage is good, the interior lights, headlights and door locks all respond normally (as well as with the ECU), but there is no response from ECU start ring, the entertainment system or other systems associated with the starting function. Basically, aside from these other items working, everything else is 'dead' (power windows, pwr top, the start function, Nav, Radio, Error messages, etc.).
I've checked every fuse to insure there wasn't a blown fuse (trunk, engine and the fuses in the battery compartment) and the fuses are all fine.
The upper left gauge on the dash panel has the flashing red LED whichdenotes the alarm is enabled, so I assume the issue is the immobilizer is on, hence preventing any start function.
As I understand it, as the voltage drains there's a safety (stay alive)function that shuts down non critical features as the voltage drains. But it's unclear what happens when the voltage reaches below 10.5v and whether there are certain 'reset' procedures to 'clear' something like the alarm function.
I understand that the alarm module has a set of dedicated batteries itself, that may require replacement, but I would think one would get a few more years from an onboard battery inside a module, as they aren't replaceable (one has to replace the module itself)..
I'd be interested in hearing whether anyone has experienced this themselves and hopefully..., whether a solution or procedure exists aside from calling for a tow... :-)
Thanks in advance, Bill

Try this.
Go into the trunk a press the battery disconnect switch.
Then wait for about 10 mins.
Then press the key into the ignition, don't start it, so everything comes on.
Take key out.
Then press key into the ignition, and try to start it.

Thank you for the quick reply...
I've looked around for a battery disconnect switch several times as I noted there was a disconnect switch listed on the build sheet, but reading up elsewhere, I also saw that AM discontinued the disconnect switch in 09'.
If there is a disconnect switch, any help to steer me as to where it might be mounted as I've removed most removable panels in the trunk hunting for a switch and wasn't able to locate it..
Thanks again...., Bill

............I stand corrected.......
I think we might be confused on what was deleted. The battery on switch was deleted on all cars around '09. I do recall them talking about removing from Rapide but they just hide it. It should be locate in the passenger side trunk next to the charge port up in the fender area, behind a cover on '09MY. After that its called a battery disconnect module, which should be located next to battery. I will try and load a picture. Give me a sec.
Try and press the brake pedal harder, it's possible that the switch is not being seen to allow starting.

LED is flashing red in the dash with nothing turned on?
Disconnect the battery, both terminals off..get a jump wire and connect both vehicle terminals for 30 seconds, reconnect battery..manually close the door latches, also close the boot and bonnet doors.. arm the car twice with about 1/2 second pause between via remote(prefer glass remote if u have)..unlock the car 3 times via the remote..hold brake pedal and push the key through the ignition switch but take 3 seconds to reach the end if travel and hold...does the car come back to life?
