Just Test Drove. V12VS!!!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As u all know, I drive Aston's of all models all day, so sometimes they get boring...I just drove the new V12 Vantage S...as a 7-speed ASM, u forget about the whole ASM and fall in love!!

I'm not sure if it's available for client test drives right now, but whenever you have a chance, DON'T test drive it unless ur ready to buy...hehe cause I highly doubt u''ll leave without signing the dotted line..lmao ;-)

Great. Thanks a lot, Irish. Just what I need .... a must-have car that is unaffordable. Like being in the room with Jennifer Aniston but knowing she's going home with some other guy...lol

For once I'll go ahead and say it: I'm glad I can't afford it.

Because if I could, I would.

There it is in a nutshell. Not sure I could forget about the ASM. I live in a rural area and thankfully I can pick and choose the right times and roads to avoid traffic and drive hard, a lot more than if I was in an urban area. But even then, realistically, how much time do I spend thrashing the car? Any time not going for max attack, I think I would get tired of ASM quickly.

Waiting for the limited run of manuals (please, Aston!) or the dual clutch solution Aston says can't be done on the current platform...

All clutches now mated to a V12 are dual...so the new V12VS is dual clutch? ...not sire if I mis-read ur comment??

I'm not a usual fan of ASM..7-speed was a nice improvement when it came out in V8..but still had a lag in engagement and juddering on take off..

With the new dual clutch and faster shifting..just deletes any negative concerns I had..

There are also a lot of nice features added for track use on the new ASM 3 also..it's defiantly a different car that's worth test driving when considering a older V12V stick shift or V12VS ASM

Hmm. Everything I have read says that ASM 3 is an automated manual with conventional clutch, i.e. a computer replaces the stick and clutch pedal but otherwise no fundamental difference from a conventional manual. AFAIK the term dual clutch gearbox generally refers to automated transmissions with two separate clutches in the same transmission housing, typically driving even and odd gears, and able to preselect a gear (hence the very rapid and smooth shifts); examples: VAG DSG/Porsche PDK, BMW M-DCT, latest gen Ferraris, MP4-12C etc.

Are you saying ASM 3 is a true dual clutch gearbox??

Can't say I have driven one, but having watched all the review videos and Aston's own video, the shifts sound like they have a perceptible lag compared to competitors' dual clutch systems.

Curious as to what are the features for track use?

You are correct, ASM3 is not a dual clutch.

Like in the MP4-12C..no...

Correct professional term I can use is twin plate clutch..the ASM3 7-speed in the V12VS will use a twin plate clutch just like in the previously stick shift V12V/DBS..a conventional clutch is like what is used in the V8V, which is a single plate clutch

In sport mode and fully warmed up while using "paddles", I can promise u it can shift faster than 99.99999% of us..even power shifting a stick will still be to slow....its really quick, forget about ASM1 and ASM2...

I think that what Irish meant to say was that this is a twin-plate clutch.
