AMV8 door shocks/springs question

my driver side barely stays open, and the passenger side really doesn't, unless the road is really flat, with no angle.
is there a shock in there that needs to be replaced? that sounds like a dandy job to fix something that is bound to get bad. Uggg!

timwhayden is infamous around these parts
There is a small gas strut similar to the rear hatch one except shorter. I have read that you have to take the front inner fender well out to get to it but it is doable and that should fix the problem. There have been threads on this before so maybe you could find one of those. Perhaps someone who has actually replaced it could chime in...

Just had both of mine replaced during the last service. Now the door stays open on its own, even on a hill.

Pretty sure it's a wheels off / fender liner out kind of job.

I've not done it myself but am told the struts are not very costly and its a simple procedure.

Just installed the door shocks. what a JOY it is to get in and out of the car now. its a pain to have the door be fickle on when it wants to fall and shut. usually with your leg still on the ground. and any incline, forget it !!

anyway, its a standard hood, or hatch shock at a special AM V8 door check, length.
you only have to remove about 3 of the torques on the wheel liner, and of course the tire has to come off. wedge it back and pry off the keeper clips on the shock. the one closest to the door is a pain, but once off, it pops right off. putting the new one on is easier than easy. done. after 5-6 years, I think they naturally go bad as they are under pressure when the door is closed .

Awesome,

How much is the shock? I need to replace both my hatch shocks, and both driver & passenger shocks.

On the hatch ones do I just pop out the ball clips on both ends? It's that simple?

Thanks,
007

all the shocks are close to the same. the clips are released by a small flat head screwdriver. you pry them off or out of position to release the locking mechanism.
I think they were about $30 each. (cheaper than the rear hatch shocks which have a shiny body and that doubles their cost.
