AM V8 antenna swap?

So, I know there is a fix here. how do we get rid of the ugly '06 antenna? what does it do anyway. cell only or is it FM too. I cant believe that AM put a hole in the roof for that ugly thing!

any ideas or patches?

Thanks

I swapped mine out a long time ago. I always use my iPod in my V8V so reception is irrelevant to me. Finish is gloss black, so it doesn't match the matte finish of the antenna base, but no one will ever notice because nobody ever looks at the antenna (anymore haha). Cost $20. It's for a Mini Cooper.

Stubby on mine, bought off a mini-cooper website for $ 32.00. Pulls in stations BETTER than the factory whip and far less obtrusive.

Just ordered this yesterday so ill see how it look when It comes. by the way, love the color of your A8V. and the wheels.... are those 19s or 20s? and the big reds? was that an option for the factory or did you paint them. Looks great with the deep blue.

Carbon Fibre Stubby

Five years ago bought a carbon fibre 3" long wand that bolted into the OE threads. I know it works, sound comes out, can not speak for quality, rarely turn radio on. Ebay sources offered a multitude of the same part...inexpensive, under $10 as I remember.

First owner had it custom painted at Aston Martin on the production line in BMW Orient Blue, which was a early 90's color - its very handsome and he paid I think $ 3K for the custom color on the window sticker.

20" HRE P40's on the car and the red calipers were an extra cost factory option, saw those on the window sticker, too!

rims looks great......Like 'em! Ive seen that BMW color before. very nice on a work of art like the aston.

btw. looks like the stubby 2000 328i BMW antenna might work too, but it might be a wider thread type. its very short, like 1"

DRcollie,
I just installed mine. looks much better, and also a Mini product , but its not as stubby as yours. (how funny, we are all bragging about who has the smaller antenna)
Its a little off on the color, but the new shorter look is probably worth it.

Anyone have part numbers or exact model part? I plan on ordering this in the next few days. Even the 07s still have the huge antennas, not a fan.

Edit: did some more searching and found the Official OEM Mini Sporty Rod antenna. It's an official mini genuine part and it's only $35 shipped from ebay seller PlanoMini (a mini dealership).

It's 105mm long (only 4" long), and it has a matte finish too it appears, should be a good fit. I will let you know how it turns out. (Picture below)

here is the weblink, but wonder if this has the right threads for our cars. the Mini one recommended here had two screw in thread posts and the thinner longer one worked on the AM V8. I dont really like the shinney black finish, but its a big improvement over stock. let us know if this one works. post pics. is this the same thing is DRcollie's??

I actually like my roof antenna and decided to make it match the exterior better when I first bought my car. I have no idea if it affects radio reception because I don't remember ever turning on the radio in my car. I only use my iPod.

Yep, installation is: twist off the old one, twist on the new one.
